Sorry if this is discussed elsewhere, but I've spent some time searching and have not found any discussion regarding at what mileage it is wise to trade in a Prius. In other words, when does the risk of costly maintenance go up significantly? Thanks! (2006 Prius with 51K miles.)

Hey, its a Toyota. Same as a Honda. The Prius has been around only a decade, not long enough for the average driver to reach the point where repairs on the old one start becoming more costly than the depreciation on a new one.

-- Dean, about ready to retire a 1986 Accord, despite its low repair & maintenance cost.

It really depends an the maintenance and repair requirements for a given car. For Prius, given that most of them go hundreds of thousands of miles without major problems, this may be more of a "run it into the ground" car than a "trade it before it breaks" car. There will be bad ones, naturally, but odds are against it.
