Has anyone been in a situation where the your prius just stopped going due to the traction control? i was on a hill with some wet grass and a bit of mud with OEM tires. would get half way up and the car would just stop. so i'd roll back down and gave it a bit more of a go. it took 5 efforts to get it done. right now we have Hanook winter tires with studs and seems to due pretty well in the snow and ice. hoping a better all season tire will fix for summer but...almost makes me think about trading in on a Forester. not sure why there is no switch to be able to turn off the traction control. like what if a person got half way into an insection then nothing???? any thoughts out there?
I had read the newer prius were improved in this regard. I have an 04, and what I've read to do is to just floor it in situations where it bogs down. Possibly it was so slippery in your situation , plus going uphill, backing up and trying again was the only thing possible that would have worked, even without traction control.
Very common with the Gen II Prius and the OEM Goodyear (lack of) Integrity tires. Better tires will help a lot. Tom
Yes, there are many tires that are better for traction and cornering than the OEM Integrity tires. Some of them are comparable for mileage as well. You can search for the many threads on tires or take a look at TireRack.com for reviews on other possibilities. Nokian, Michelin and even better Goodyear tires have been discussed as better alternatives to the Integrity.
