Hello everyone, we have a 2010 with ~110k miles. Friday on the way home from work the triangle, check hybrid system, CEL, etc lights come on. This is the first problem we have had in the 9 years we have owned the car. I downloaded the Dr. Prius app. It's throwing P0A80 and P3024 codes. Looking at the app, block 14 is down ~1.4 volts from the others. When charging block 14 spikes up ~.5 v higher than the others as well. It seems like there is a problem with #14. I'm not sure how to properly interpret the Dr Prius data but given the P3024 code and #14 giving obviously different results than the others on the Dr Prius app it sure seems the problem is with the #14 block. I did not do the battery life expectancy test, not sure if it would really tell me anything relevant. The 12v battery is 3 years old. It's sitting at 12.26v when the car is off. I'm not getting any other codes or weird stuff happening so it seems like the 12v battery is not the problem. I also checked the battery cooling fan, it is slightly dusty but no blockage, etc Tomorrow I'm going to check the buss bars and wiring for corrosion or loose connections. Is there anything else I should check before condemning this battery? If I need to repair or replace the battery I am leaning towards full replacement. I just dont have the time or equipment to deal with balancing, charging, etc. If I could just swap in a new cell without doing anything else I would do it but it sounds like that's not advisable NexPower lithium is ~$2300 Newpriusbatteries is ~$1800 (back ordered until at least Nov12) OEM Toyota best price online I found was ~$2200 (is there a cheaper recommend source)? I don't think I want a green bean rebuild. I just don't want risk dealing with this again. The difference in price vs new doesn't seem worth it to me. Is there any other source or options for a new battery? I am leaning towards the NexPower, it seems to be available now and sounds like it has several advantages over stock. I am kinda concerned if I went with the NexPower or newpriusbatteries and the inverter went out it wouldn't be warrantied due to the aftermarket battery. Thoughts on this? Thanks for any advice!
I went toyoda new 1440 last 10 months from Rick Hendrick Toyoda. That's east Coast though Midwest and out farther . More costly .
Wise decision in avoiding the refurbs like greenbean & dorman. My reasoning is similar to Nancy's. The OEM is a known entity and is renowned for its reliability. NexPower & NPB seem to have good records so far, but if confidence is your primary concern, the OEM batteries have a long term record of reliability. It's like I tell people who want to know what brand of 12V to get to replace their 12 year old original. Why would you change brands when what you have is known to perform so much better than others?
Wen you see the bus bar and nut conditions and you see the connection systems out in the world like I do . I ask myself this is it Eh. Welp otay then.
You could try the Prolong system. I just finished the complete cycle. 3 discharges and 4 charges. I used it about a year ago and it brought the battery back to normal. I noticed it starting to do the faster discharge and slow charge from 2 bars to 3, then faster charge to 6 (?) bars, 80%. And sometimes getting the hybrid batter low warning first thing in the morning.
welcome! i would go oem if i could find one, otherwise whatever i could find first. some have had luck swapping cells, but most find it doesn't last too long, and you're playing whack a mole. it really depends on the condition of the other cells. also, now would be a good time to clean the egr circuit, if you haven't.
After completing the Prolong Full System, this is my MPG improvement. I drove 65mph. Only about 20 miles were in the city. Usually on this trip I would get about 51mpg.
