I have just used my last free maintance service covered by the Toyota plan (25,000 miles).. I have been offered an extended plan by my local San Diego dealer for 45,000 miles... Does the math on maintance add up since this a hybrid and oil changes, etc. are more expensive? Is there something better out there, as for the plans? Or is it a waste of money? Thanks...

I'm sure this has been covered at some point on this site but I haven't been able to find it, so please excuse if this question has been covered for the hundredth time...

waste of money. even with synthetic, hybrids are a bout as cheap as they come to maintain. look thu your maintenance manual for the next 45k, peanuts.

    30k service
    $50 oil change
    $45 air filter
    $45 cabin air filter
    $20 tire rotation and inspection

    35k service
    $20 tire rotation and inspection

    40k service
    $50 oil change
    $20 tire rotation and inspection

    45k service
    $20 tire rotation and inspection

    Total = $270

These are at dealership prices so you can get better prices elsewhere or DIY. So the question is what are they charging you for the extended maintenance?

that is a great break down, it puts it into perspective.. i think the dealer charges more for some of those things however $50 for an synthetic oil change is common for most places...

4 years or 45000 miles, I don't believe this give you an additional 4 years, it's when it reaches 4 years or 45000 miles.

For $299 and it's just a maintenance plan, not a warranty. I would pass and go a la carte.

Those prices are at the dealership I go to using coupons, they would vary elsewhere. At $299, I'd probably pass because cost is comparable to paying at time of service. I'd rather not be tied to a single dealership for 4 maintenance services in case I move far away or the dealership has bad customer service.
