Becoming Chairman of the Board, so not sent out to pasture.

Do wonder if it is a result of that 'special business group'(not sure what their exact name is) being convened for their future EV plans.

He did express frustration that he's seen as the "old guard".

I get his point of view - Toyota is a global company and competes in markets where hybrids are much more suited for lowering local emissions.

But on the flipside, he has to recognise that same statement he made - Toyota is a global company. So just as much as you can push hybrids into emerging markets or any other market where hybrids make a stronger case, you also have to compete in markets where EVs are favoured.

Toyota created diesels and D-4D technology in Europe because it favoured it. (although I must say, it took forever for Toyota to bring direct injection and valvetronic to North America. It was kept mostly on Lexus vehicles).

    must be getting bored.
Isn't there enough Tesla BS on this Toyota board already,

Like no one can tell how many members think that car company is the answer to every ones prays, and Toyota is the only money hungry, environmentally unconcerned car company in the world because they don't follow the Tesla Army plan for the future of the world as we know it.
When at least some of us already know, as soon as the plan changes, guess who's gonna be the first get on the new course and reorganize. Is being a winner really all that matters?
    Close enough?

we just want a prius bev, is that too much to ask? a lot of people here (most?) aren't interested in a tesla, even though they might be impressed by what they have done in so short a time.

John is passionate about Toyota & the Prius as well as toyota's motives - as well as often using the competitor's downturns as an opportunity to say, "know your audience", meaning - as Toyota knows better. Perhaps you're thinking of another john?
BTW - I'd heard - he was interested in buying the Toyota BZ ev .... (at least before the wheels falling off isue) but hopefully it can be understood - that doesn't make him or any other a Prius hater. Peace & love & calm down already
    :)
I'd love a prius ev too - especially if it were the v version - only w/ more
ground clearance ... & AWD. But toyota, apparently knowing their audience - finds that a non-starter.

    I can! Do I win a prize?
The number of members that “think that car company[Tesla] is the answer to every ones prays, and Toyota is the only money hungry, environmentally unconcerned car company in the world because they don't follow the Tesla Army plan for the future of the world as we know it.” is Zero!

Perhaps less of the exaggerations would lead to a better, more productive, discussion?

    How hard can it be?
    • Keep existing transaxle and inverter.
    • Remove engine (102 kg / 224 lbs) , radiator, exhaust, and gas tank (est. 86 kg / 190 lbs).
      • Use conformal fitting battery pack in spare tire well (set 50 kg / 110 lbs)
      • Replace existing traction battery with BEV version modules.
    • Put batteries in spare former traction battery, tire well, gas tank, and former engine volumes including radiator.
    • New software for the ECUs.
    • Tesla plug for both AC and DC charging.
Use 2170 cells in modules designed to fit in the available spaces. Use Tesla BMS system.

    Tesla?
China is the largest car market in the world, and that didn't happen as a surprise. They had a plan in place to more their fleet to low and zero emissions in place for years that was mostly centered on plug ins. Europe is also a major market with zero emission policies in place. Renault/Nissan were making EVs for these and other markets in a large scale while Tesla was just shipping Lotus conversions.

Toyota was among the the top ten of companies lobbying against global warming addressing policies. It wasn't because of some altruistic drive.

And most of us that have seen the same obnoxious exchanges as a result for the last 5 or more years can expect the exact same exchanges ( see the other two posts quoting me above ) again and again and again ad nauseam
    subtle hint

Now you want less exaggerations !
And a friendlier? "better, more productive, discussion" !

That might have been possible a year or two ago, you'll not get it from me Now. surprise.

I think the diverging discussions and few participants is a result of the lack of many new prius labeled products, those who favored them moving on to other things.

I see a participation drop in a Rav4 Hybrid forum I watch as there has really been nothing new and then activity will pick up as a "new improved" becomes the subject of interest. Though there is less Tesla talk over there as it is somewhat moderated. On the Avalon forum, nothing for months as the model was discontinued.
