    Hello all,

I had an original Toyota remote starter installed when I bought my 2010 Prius. The dealer informed me at that time that the range was about 90 feet and that I be better with a jobber remote starter... I did stick with the Toyota because I didnt want another remote transmitter key with my keyfob and that the range was not a problem for me...

And winter came and the remote starter was working fine except that on one pretty cold winter morning it did not...and the next morning. It took a while for the dealer to find the problem...

Sit tight in your chair... in the check list of the technician for remote starter problem(wich I have copy) it is stated that :(Sorry it is in french, but translated, it goes like that:)

Remote starter wont work below -22F(-30C) this is a normal condition and no fixing is required.

What do you think of that!
I made that post to let you know that information. Now I have a "Chinese remote starter" working fine with my Japanese car!
    Hope this will help.

It does work way below 22F. I know there is a cut off temp but it is a lot lower than 22F. I did not like the short distance and the 10 minutes it would run the car before turning off so I disabled the OEM remote start and had a Viper unit installed.

There are threads on this that cover the exact temp it cuts off.

The OP said -22, not 22. You missed the sign.

    At -30C, things get iffy.

    Commercial is typically 0 °C to 70 °C. Industrial (automotive) is usually −40 °C to 85 °C. Military temp range is usually −55 °C to 125 °C.
However, there are exceptions and Industrial temp range can be −25 °C to 85 °C).

So, it should still work at -30C, but the operating temp range for the particular device may be one of the exceptions.

I did miss the sign. There are people that claim it does not work around +5F. I never had that issue. I would hate to live in an area that is -22F.

The car will start with the button. The remote start has a cut off of -22F.

I'm with you on this Judge! Went with the viper 5501 this is a 2way unit so you always know if your car started or not, amazing range they claim 1mile! I Have had it start 5 blocks from work,Through brick walls! Works like no other remote start I have had.A little more $$ than others but worth it!

At -22c I'd have too much anti freeze (12 year old kind) in me to drive so not an issue. Would you be using a block heater at this temp? Wonder if that would give the OEM system a chance to work?

Right there with you, Yogi except that the coldest part of the day is the early morning and I barely have time to get up, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, chip the ice off my car and get under way. The only way I can fit in a couple snifters of antifreeze is if I get up earlier and that just ain't happening!
