I found some interesting stuff that I thought I may get your thoughts on, My Toyota Prius 2013 was imported from japan and I am based in the UK. on the UK Toyota website I went to do a recall check but result came out as not recognised either by plate number or vin, I presume because its a import but i was advised to send a Toyota email for any recall checks which I have, awaiting reply. my next step I went to japan Toyota online website to do a recall check and the result comes as 2 issues found I believe. please look below: No. Content Notification date (start date) Implementation status 1 Regarding the recall of Prius, Prius PHV, Prius α, and SAI Reported on June 29, 2016 Not implemented (registration has been cancelled due to dismantling, export, etc.) 2 About Prius recall Reported on February 12, 2014 Completed (registration has been cancelled due to dismantling, export, etc.) based on the results if you look at (2) it shows it was completed. bear in mind I imported this car into the UK on 01/July/2016 so anything before that it was in japan and I believe the previous owner sorted the issue (2) as it shows completed if am not mistaken. so regarding issue (1) based on Toyota dated June 29th 2016 it shows it was not implented as its not been taking for repair again if am not mistaken. as few days after I imported the car into the UK. I will post full info below regarding each issues below and also my question is if there is a recall in japan I wonder if the UK dealerlship is able to fix this recall issue if its still active. many thanks guys. recall issue 1 - 1. Problem status In fuel evaporative gas emission control devices, the end shape of the evaporative gas passage (made of resin) is inappropriate, which may cause cracks to occur at the end during use. Therefore, if you continue to use it for a long time, the cracks may penetrate, causing fuel to leak when the tank is full, resulting in a fuel odour. 2. Details of improvement All vehicles will have their fuel evaporative gas emission control devices replaced with countermeasures. recall issue 2 - 1. Problem status In a hybrid system, due to inappropriate control software, unexpected thermal stress may be applied to the booster circuit elements during high load driving such as during acceleration. Therefore, if the element is damaged during use, the warning light will turn on and the motor will run in a fail-safe manner. Additionally, if electrical noise occurs when an element is damaged, the hybrid system may stop and the vehicle may become unable to drive. 2. Details of improvement All vehicles and control software will be modified to countermeasure specifications. If an element is damaged and a warning light comes on after modifying the control software, we will replace the power converter (DC-AC inverter) module free of charge.
I don't know all the particulars but that seems like a firmware update software update and an evaporative emissions fuel valve issue probably there in the back of the car where all that evap nonsense is and of course there's a connection up at the front don't know which ones they are but looking through Toyota parts and pictures should be easy to figure out Will they be done by Toyota in a different market with a different market car I kind of highly doubt that but in some countries it may be mandated so I don't know but it seems like those would be easy things to get handled on one's own The firmware update should be able to be had and possibly be installed with the Toyota tech software. I don't know if these updates were dealt with in the US or not If so I might have the firmware on my tech machine I have everything through 2022 I think but I don't know about every TSB in every instance of all the countries personally.
