As I just bought an '06 Prius, I wanted to have my dealer install XM which Toyota has been promising for months.

After calling several dealers who said they had no XM Prius information, I called them back with Toyota's part numbers (the info came from this very forum). They looked it up and--lo and behold--they found the XM parts!

It turns out that the tuner is currently available, but the second part, the mounting kit is delayed.

Anyone know exactly what the problem is and when it is expected to be corrected?

A post on the Tundra Solutions forum says Toyota has sent a "stop sell" order to dealers on the mounting kit. I wonder if they are using the order to keep XM radios away from Prius owners so they'll have enough for other cars.

I got exactly the same response last week. I am traveling this week, so was going to check next week (4/10). Anyone know if the antenna is routed thru the AM/FM antenna hole so that it would fit under the shark fin antenna?

Yes, but make sure it's the micro antenna. Take a look at http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=15983 for more information.

Yep, I'm waiting on them to be available from Toyota for shipping so that I can add them to the PriusChat Shop at a discounted price.

I just got email from Toyota and this is what they said "As of April 6th, XM radio is available as an accesory for the Prius and can be installed at your local Toyota dealer."

I have one of the xm kits with the 10-character limit. If the new tuner for the Prius has significantly more characters, I wonder if I could buy the tuner separately and use my existing wire harness and antenna? I imagine the wire harness would be the same because it is fitted into the same Prius radio.

Is there an update on this? My local dealers (Northern California) say the kit is now no longer available and they don't know when/if it will be offered?

Are they perhaps readying a software update?

My dealer told me that my Prius XM tuner and mounting kit DID arrive at the dealership.

My 2006 Prius should arrive in 1-2 days when the dealer will install the XM. However, I can't report that the XM is fully functional until I take delivery.

The latest update on the Prius XM Radio is that Toyota has a stop-hold on the mounting kit until Mid-May.

The part number available on this site is incorrect. It's a part for a Toyota truck and will not fit exactly. The parts manager that I spoke with said he would call Toyota to find out what's going on.

What bothers me is that Toyota initally promised the XM for the Prius by March and now they are saying May. Who's to say it won't be available until Sept. or even later? I just wish they would come up with a firm date!

The one I posted? I took it straight from the official installation instructions!

My dealer started working on the install, but found that the mounting kit would not fit into the Prius perfectly.

The service manager called me to say that the "correct" kit would not be available until late May. But he also said he would call Toyota to get more information.

I'll update this forum as I receive updated information.

Where was the Antenna supposed to be installed in the Prius with the Factory Prius XM Radio? Was it a Roof Mount Magnetic Antenna?

Until Toyota decides to get its act together by supplying the mounting kit, I installed an XM Roady XT Car and Home Kit from Costco.

This kit which cost $99.99 less a $20 rebate (total cost $79.99) seemed to be an inexpensive way to receive XM. It was easy to install. Of course it looks "tacky" since it is just a temporary hook-up. But it works!

At least I have an option to receive XM since I already have an account from my previous vehicle.

I too installed an XM Roady XT today but I am having a problem. I have the power to the unit coming from the front power point so the radio will turn on and off with the car. However, the unit defaults to the XM Preview Channel 1 when it starts up. If I turn the unit off and on manually, the unit starts up to the station it was on at shutdown. Is this the same for you?

THe Prius XM install kit has been released.

My dealer ordered the Prius XM install kit today so we can see how Toyota wants the XM installed. He does not have a date on the Sirius install kit. Apparently there are some problems with sound and noise with the current integrated Sirius Receiver.

At the risk of asking a dumb question, I assume you need two items -- the install kit and the module, are they both available?

Matt, if you read this whole thread, you would have known that there are two parts to the XM install kit for the Prius: (1) XM tuner and (2) Prius mounting kit.

The XM tuner is currently available, but the mounting kit has a "stop hold" on it by Toyota supposedly until late next month. This forum will probably update this information when it actually becomes available.
