Wait until the owners find out how expensive Proxes' are (at a dealer) when they get severe enough tire damage to replace one. The Toyota dealer in Ohio, who is listed as an official Toyota tire dealer, had to special order one from another state. With a cheap hotel 2-day stay and one Proxes tire + labor, I was out $575. Two weeks later, I punctured another one, but not as badly.

The sooner you wear the Proxes' down to bare rubber and pay the environmental disposal fee, the better. Then you can happily go out shopping for real tires. Proxes = PITA.

Interesting, the aspect ratio is 50 vs 45 for the Prius V (five). Perhaps because the 50 series will provide slightly higher weight carrying capacity.

My Prius V (five) came with Toyo A20 tires in size 215/45-17. They were good tires, for OEM tires, and lasted for a bit over 40K miles (worn down to 3/32). Unfortunately they are not readly available except from Toyota dealers for an enormous price. I replaced them with Michelins from Costco, better tires for far less money.

Wheel size for the Prius v appears to be the same as for the Prius V (five), 17 X 7j.

Bear in mind it doesn't mean the Proxes will be the only OEM brand available for the Prius v. Toyo had the same press release when the Proxes were "selected" to be the OEM tires for the 2010 Prius V (Five). It's likely the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 and Bridgestone Turanza EL400 (also OEM tires for the 2010/11 Prius Five) will be fitted on the 2012 v.

I wonder if the 215/50R17 tires will have the raised rim protectors like their 215/45R17 counterparts.
