I decided to find out the weight of a 16" touring Prius rim. Removed tire, TPMS sensor, stick on weights, clip on weights; 15.4 lbs or 7.0 kg Had about 8 pieces of stick on, one chunk clip on. Based on the positioning, it appears to be to offset the TPMS sensor. So if you buy a set of tires and rims without the TPMS sensors, you should probably have the rims balanced if the seller cannot document that the wheels have been re-balanced after removing TPMS. Does anyone know the weight of a 15" regular Prius rim? or a 17" regular Scion tC rim?

if balacing is so important then how come new cars aren't balanced? i bought tires and didnt want them to use a rubber mallet to put on clip weights on the rims , so i made them use sticky weights instead
New car wheels ARE balanced. Mostly by machine. The operator just loads and unloads the wheels (with tire mounted, of course). ALL the new cars I have ever purchased had wheel weights on them. AND I've seen video of the balancing station on the production line of three different car factories.
