I had my Prius for a year with only 11,600 miles. Despite only rare use of tonneau cover, a discoloration developed. I tried to clean, but it looks like grease embedded in the fabric.

Has anyone had anything like this? Is this a warranty issue or wear and tear?

    Thanks!

Take it back to the dealer and let them look at it. It looks like warranty replacement to me unless they can clean it for you.

Mine is the same way in the same place, showed up after about 2 years. I don't know the cause but I haven't been able to wash it off either, if you find a way let me know.

Mine has the same mark just not as pronounced, I have not tried to clean it yet though.

Mine has a very small square mark just as the cover comes out of the retractable frame. This mark is not nearly as long as the one shown in the photo.

I use mine quite often as I keep my golf clubs in the back most of the time and keep the cover pulled over them. How often do those with the long mark use their covers?

I always keep it extended unless the cargo prevents it. I, too, have the skid mark down the center of the cover.

I just checked mine on my 2 year and 4 month old 2010 and no stain mark. I do see a slight glossiness mark about an inch wide up the center that looks like there is a wheel in the roll up mechanism causing the glossy mark that may be staining some of them. I don't use mine much, as in probably less than a dozen times a year.

Nope, haven't ever seen that before. But I can recommend Woolite "Oxy Deep" spray for cleaning unusual stains.

1.) Maybe we can prevent some future discoloration with a vinyl cleaner protection treatment. Something like 303 Aerospace protectant that has Lasting UV-Screening Protection.

2.) Also that mark from the wheel that might be deteriorating and getting softer/harder or excess grease moving off the wheel onto the material.

3.) Someone can dye the whole thing a new darker color. (ha)

Yes, the marks will come off. I removed them this afternoon using 409 cleaner and a clean rag. Put one hand under the cover, or better yet remove the cover from the car and put it on a hard surface. Then spray the cleaner on and rub real hard. Looks as good as new.
