I found a thread on another board that says some owners can toggle between the Energy screen and the Consumption screen by simply pressing the INFO button on the wheel.... others can't.

It mentioned that models built after 12-03 had the capability due to a new software revision. Mine was built in February but unfortunately won't switch via the wheel button.

Does anyone know the facts on this? And... what's the chance it would be easy for a dealer to upgrade?

    Thanks,
    Gene

I thought it was the other way around. The older ones had it but the newer ones lost it.

Mine is Jan04 and does not switch

Don't know my manfacturing date - but I picked it up at the end of April.

The info button on the wheel does toggle between the Energy & Consumption screens.

From what I see on my '04, the Info button on the wheel toggles between the Energy screen and "whatever your last screen was". If I go to the Consumption screen and then toggle the button, it does indeed go back and forth between the two. If I go to the Nav map screen and toggle the button, it goes between the Energy and Nav screens.

I'm 98.2% sure mine is the same as yours is - toggle between last two screens. I'll check tonight on the way home.

Mine does not toggle between anything. If I hit it I get the consumption screen, no matter what screen is up. If I hit it again, I still have the consumption screen :)

My BC has a manufacture date of 4/04.

If I hit the "Info" button on the dash, it toggles between the last two screens viewed.

Pressing the "Info" button on the steering wheel toggles between "Energy" and "Consumption" regardless of which screen is currently displayed or was last displayed.

Since the behavior doesn't seem to track to the manufacturing date, there may be another reason.

On mine, which does toggle between Energy and the last screen used, I have turned off the default setting for "Return to Energy Screen Automatically" or whatever it's called. I also have the NAV option.

Perhaps one or the other is coming into play.

My #9 made in Sept or Oct does not toggle. I've often longed for that feature. I wonder if those who have it could get into their service screens and read off the firmware revisions.

    Steps: Get to maint screen.

Press Display, tap upper left then lower left of visible screen behind display adjust frame 3 times in succession (upper, lower, upper, lower, upper, lower)

Then once in, go to the menu, then press the upper left then lower right of the screen. A second menu will appear.

From here, one of the options (I don't recall which, google for prius maintenance screen and it may come up) should display the various firmwares of what's in the car. I'll note mine tonite. I'd love to find out if it's possible to update whichever one in order to gain this feature.

I also wonder if those who can toggle have their MPG reset after fillup?

My #9 which I got in April toggles. It also does the reset of the tank after a refuel. I will see if I can get the firmware revision from the screen. The toggle is quite nice, I find it helps to be able to use it to keep an idea of how I am doing on driving to get the best milage.

Driver's door. Open it and, while facing the car, look on the right side of the frame.........you'll see a sticker near the bottom.

What's a fillup?

Anyway, I followed the procedures set forth in your post and the closest I was able to get was the LAN Monitor screen (EMV). That showed the following:

    01-D5 178-46-D
    01-D5 190-46-D

Probably not what we need here but that's the only screen I could see that displayed anything other than "OK" (i.e. basic service check screens).

I called my dealer yesterday and spoke to a service guy familiar with the Prius. He didn't know anything about the toggle function and referred me to the Toyota 1-800-331-4331 Customer Service Line.

There I spoke to a very polite gentelman who was not familiar with the car at all. He told me twice to touch Energy or Consumption at the bottom left of the display, per page 250 in the manual, to change screens.

I worked with him to focus on the wheel INFO button and had several "will you hold ?"s while he relayed my questions to someone off-line. Finally he suggested I call my dealer. When I asked to speak to someone more familiar with the Prius, he declined and said he would "reasearch this question carefully" and get back to me.

He did call back six hours later and said the Prius technicians are unaware of this "toggling" function. I mentioned I knew of a number of owners who had the function and asked if VIN numbers or date of manufacture would help them answer my request. He said "No, I don't think so". Once again he said he would "carefully research this question" and get back to me.

This "careful research" seems to be a standard line. He used it a number of times. I do believe he will call back but I'm not expecting a satisfactory answer. Maybe I'll be surprised. I sure would like to switch from the wheel.

BTW, I turned off the automatic return to energy screen but still no toggle. My MPG does not reset at fillup and I couldn't get to my firmware revision from the Maintenance screen. I'll try again tonight.

Mine doesn't toggle. I got it on March 29. I went into the Service screen that htmlspinnr said to above, and I didn't know what I was doing, so I looked around and found a check list. Why is there a unlit backup camera check?
    Thanks
    Brian
