You need tires already on a 2017?

 

does the michelin energy saver a/s fit?

 

What's "quiet" to one person, might be unpleasant to another. No easy answer. Next time I buy tires I'm getting them at one of those places that offers a 30 or 60 day return/exchange.

What a nightmare that rotation turned out to be.

 

Michelin defenders will give the most mileage for the least noise and be safest, 100 bucks each

 

How many miles did you get on the original tires and what were they?

As newer cars get quieter I see a big deal is made out of how quiet the tires are.

 

The Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 were the quietest tires I had on my 2005 gen 2 prius. They reasonably good in the snow as well.

I just went through the tire fiasco with my 2017, OEM only lasted 35000, found out Michelin doesn’t make enough energy savers a/s In my tires size 195/65r15 for it to even be an option, couldn’t even order them. My oem tires were toyo nanoenergy a2, very smooth and great handling , so i went with Toyo Versado eco, Wanted an LLR tire, So far they ride great i believe a little more road noise than the oems, but still very quiet (i like to drive in silence sometimes) the handling is quick and very smooth ride. I will keep everyone posted on how they continue to handle and last , I

 

They only refund the price of the tires , not all the add ons pressure sensors,etc, so i only got half the cost back when i new (one day) exchanged them for the correct tire for my Prius , that was Les Schaub , im guessing the other’s big box places do the same. I wish Costco had my tire but they didnt

 

My OEM's will probably be replaced eventually due to aging not mileage, but with my 08' gen 2, a new set of Michelins made a big difference in road noise. The OEM's are fairly quiet on smooth, newly paved surfaces, but on slightly rougher or concrete pavement the noise is substantially more.

Sorry, A/S Premiers, although that was around 5 years ago, as I traded the 08' gen 2 for the Prius 2 in fall 2017.

 

One thing I heard was the Premiers can be a bit noisy on grooved pavement, more maybe than other tires. But maybe that's an isolated condition?

Also read quite a few reports that you take a hit on mpg, particularly when new?

FWIW I went with Prmacy MXM4 (choices are limited in 17") and took a deep mpg hit the first year. Seems to be bouncing back now, finally...

The Premiers were also available, and I was thinking about them as well. How were they for mpg, on your second gen?

 

I don't recall seeing any particular difference in mpg. I did feel that road grip and handling was quite a bit better. Plus a smoother ride and noise reduction. The OEM's where quite noisey even on a nice freshly paved surface. Can't remember now what the OEM's brand were now.

 

Finally need to replace my original set of tires. 83k miles, mostly hot dry southwest US climates. Going to go with whatever Costco sells.
