The links are for OEM Pacific sensors. Are you asking if anyone had success using OEM sensors, or are you more concerned about the specific ebay vendors OEM sensor quality control, good luck

 

You don't have to have working TPMS sensors, in Canada.

 

Same might be true for the US, at least the shop that inspected my car. YMMV specially in cali.

If you don't have a TPMS tool like Autel TS508 or TechStream with an OBDII adaptor that can access your Prius ECU to program TPMS sensors, having two sets of tires means you will have to take the car to a tire shop or dealer to have them programmed each time. Twice a year, ~$60 at a tire shop, ~$100 at a dealer will be the cost, unless you have free tire change-up service from your local tire shop. Alternatively, you can purchase programmable TPMS sensors like Aftermarket TPMS sensors and have them cloned to the TPMS sensor IDs you have in your tires now. This will trick the car to think you have not switched the tires when you in fact change the tires. However, there have been some reports that this cloned TPMS sometimes fails to connect to the car's ECU after the switch. If that happens, unless you have a TPMS tool to reprogram the car or sensor or both, you are forced to visit a tire shop again. Also, most of the tire shops I have talked to do not even offer the "cloning" service for you. That being said, aftermarket TPMS sensors work fine. I had one on my older HCH. I believe it was Schrader. The cost was half or less of the OEM sensor. I also have Autel Programmable MX-Sensor that came with the TS508 TPMS tool kit but have not used any on my car. I plan to install them on the winter wheels this year for my new Prius Prime. But, you can also pick up used OEM sensors cheap from eBay. Of course, there is a greater chance the battery dies sooner on a used one, but if it has not been on the car the battery should not have drained. Most TPMS sensors batteries last more than 5 years some over 10 years depending on the use. Not for Prius, but for my other cars, I bought used OEM wheels from junkyard via eBay as winter wheels and they all came with OEM TPMS sensors installed. So far, after 3 years no problem.

I'm running snow tires on corolla rims on our 2010 Prius, sans tpms sensors, for 11 years now. We're low enough miles they still have plenty of tread, but yeah, I'm cognizant that they're "getting on". I took one down to nearby Kal Tire, they looked it over and said dubbed them good for another year. I DIY all the wheel swaps, convenient, no cost.

With those on the car, obviously there's a little light on the dash. No big deal. They've all got 7/32" still, and barely any cracking, just starting.

One of them even has a DIY plug-repair, done maybe 8 years back, no problems since.

 

I invested in the TPMS tool which happens to come with a set of 8 TPMS sensors. I am not using them right now. I have winter wheels and tires I used for my previous PP. Since I bought them as a set from an online tire store already mounted and balanced, I never bothered to install TPMS sensors on them. I had an option of buying TPMS sensors from the tire place, but it was something like $40/piece and was not programmable type, meaning I would have to have them registered to the car. And I did not have the TPMS tool kit at that time. Now since I have everything I need to program and register a new set of TPMS sensors, I plan to install those Autel Programmable MX-Sensor that came with the TS508 TPMS tool kit into the winter wheels. I was thinking of doing that DIY by break the beads without dismounting the tire from the rim and remove the standard valves that are on now and replace them with TPMS sensor/valves. But now, come to think of it, the addition of the sensor may change the weight distribution slightly, so I may have to rebalance the wheel anyway. If that is the case, I will just take the tires and TPMS to a shop and have them replace the valve/TPMS sensor and balance the tire and install it on the car for ~$60. That should be easier.

 

no worries - my bad too. I said links when all I had was search terms to use at ebay. I should have posted at least price and maybe a pic or two. I bought 2 sets of 4 sensors as I used a set on my snow tires and I broke one mounting new tires on the OEM wheels. The sets of 4 Pacific OEM senors are $46

Just make sure that the Autel TPMS Tool is TS50x or above that comes with an OBDII connector. Lower-level models including the TS40x series (TS401 and TS408)do not have OBDII connectivity thus can not be used on Prius to program the ECU.

 

If the autel tool you can use will program the MX sensors, then why not just clone the existing sensors on your car? Just keep track of where each tire is (LF, RF, etc) and swap the entire set of 4- shouldn't need to reprogram the car at all.
