I recently upped my tire pressure from the factory setting to 42/20 on my '06. Need I hit the Tire Pressure reset button? (I know this topic might be out there already, but the SEARCH is broken again :-( )
Those of us who have read the manual (a very painful and tedious task) know that the answer to this question is: YES! As my friend at work said (who also has an '06), "it took them three pages to say press the button and hold it until the tire pressure indicator blinks three times". - Tom
Ok BUT....... There are apparently two areas that are concerned with tire pressure reset. I was going to reset it today but didn't until I was certain what BOTH of these did. First item has been discussed above. Below the streering wheel yada yada. But the 2nd one is located deep in the Menu. Here is how to get to it: Hit Menu on top right of MultiFunction Display Then Click on "Setup" Then go to page 3 of 3 and select Calibration ADJUST If you click on "Select after tire change" you will get the following message: System has entered calibration mode. Nothing else APPEARS to happen. What are you supposed to do now? I have not found anything in the user manual. Any clue anyone? Thanks

Must have nothing else to do ha. Maybe he/she did not think to look at the manual, Maybe he/she don't have the manual, Or just maybe they just wanted to write in to be a part of the gang, you know to have fun and be a mamber of the Priuschat.com family. So please keep the bad aditude to yourself..... Maybe you are just writing this to be a part of the family also?. Lets not be so negative with others . It really takes the fun out if this. thank you
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bobkat21 @ Apr 17 2006, 08:18 PM) </div> Bad attitude? Sorry, at least I answered the guy's question. What did you add to the discussion? Are you having a bad day or something? My reply was way back in January and did not elicit any other discussion (hey, the guy got his question answered!). Do you troll old discussions just to be a PC cop? Exactly how did my answer "take the fun out of this"? When is it out of line to gently point out that the info is in the manual but is indeed hard to digest? Again - at least I answered the question rather than just saying to RTFM as I have often seen in this and other forums. -Tom <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Three60guy @ Apr 17 2006, 08:32 PM) </div> Is it a calibration for tire diameter for the NAV system after changing tires? Used to have that on my Audi with NAV. - Tom
i've got my guy checking on it tomorrow. he's half asleep right now so whatever he's telling me isn't making sense
-_- his official nav system class isn't till august but this will make him take a close look at things first. at the dealer these things come up so rarely, it's good for him to get these kinds of questions.
Yes, I recall reading that the Nav calibration is to compensate for tire diameter. But you still don't get any indication that it actually does anything. I chose the calibration after upping pressures to 38/36 while the car was parked in the garage. A few days later, I chose it again at a brief stop, assuming maybe it would do something as soon as I started moving. Still no action.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rick Auricchio @ Apr 18 2006, 01:07 AM) </div> I did find it in the NAV manual at the very end of the advanced functions section. There was only a few sentences about it. It did make it sound like it was for NAV dead reckoning. It also seemed that it was supposed to pop a map up and do the calibration over a short distance of driving after pressing the "button". I don't have the manual here at work and haven't had a chance to play with it. It seems to be an automatic calibration based on the GPS. And it does seem like we are supposed to see something happening on the MFD. With the Audi, you marked a tire, rolled it forward 10 revolutions or so, then calculated circumference in cm. It then took a dealer's scan tool or the excellent after-market VAG-COM tool to write it into the NAV system computer. As a result, this pain in the butt was seldom done. - Tom
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rick Auricchio @ Apr 18 2006, 01:07 AM) </div> Did you get anything at all after pressing the button? I tried it a few minutes ago. You had to be stopped to get into the settings screen. My NAV was on and indicating GPS. I was on a road in my development (not off the map in my driveway). I had been in the consumption screen, went to settings and selected calibration. I immediately got a message saying tire calibration was beginning. Then the MFD switched itself to the map display. I was only about a block away from home. I did not see any indication of calibration complete when I got in front of my house, so I went around the block again at about 20mph. Still no indication of calibration complete so I gave up and pulled into my driveway. I'll try again tomorrow if I think of it on the way to work. So mine seems to be doing something, I'm just not sure how far you have to drive to get it to complete or if it did and I missed any brief message that might have flashed up. - Tom
I found the info in the advanced area of the Nav book. Why it is located there I have no idea. But thanks for the heads up. I do not have any switching to the map at all. Does this occur only if tires are actually changed? I wasn't moving either. I just tried it while I was in the garage. Next time I am out I will try it while moving. Galaxee, any updates?
hm, give me a couple hours. he won't be home till around 7, and he's been fighting with a camry all day <_< i will, however, call and remind him before he leaves work. as that is usually necessary...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Three60guy @ Apr 18 2006, 05:07 PM) </div> Makes sense to be in the NAV book if it is only for the navigation system dead reckoning. Of course the next section of the NAV manual talks about reminders and screen brightness and contrast so go figure. Did you have your NAV on and past the "I Agree" screen before you tried it? Since you other guys seemed to say nothing was happening is why I gave so much detail in how I got as far as I did. Also possibly the NAV has to have a GPS lock before you start the calibration??? - Tom
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom_06 @ Apr 18 2006, 04:51 PM) </div> Yup, sure did.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Three60guy @ Apr 18 2006, 07:39 PM) </div> Hmmmm. My car is an 11/05 build 2006 package #7. However, about three weeks ago my navigation system died (reported no disc, also wouldn't eject disc, but worked on cold mornings). They put a new one in 2 weeks ago and I have the 5.1D disc now. This happens to fix the AM radio voice command problem that I shared with all the other 11/05 build cars. I wonder if we found another software "feature". What is your car's build date? Do you have the problem where it recognizes the "AM Radio" voice command but doesn't switch to AM? - Tom
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom_06 @ Apr 18 2006, 07:03 PM) </div> My build date is also 11/05. I also have the AM radio voice command problem. Thanks for the info about the 5.1D disc version. Galaxee did he go to bed yet? My guess is he had a bad day. lol
nah we're still up. he had a long day as usual- couldn't find the nav systems coursebook they keep at the shop. he'll have to go looking for that. for the moment his best guess is that it's comparing the distance traveled by gps vs distance traveled by wheel sensors. this reminds him of the sienna tire pressure system, where you select "recalibrate" and it goes into recal mode. you get no confirmation that it's complete or even doing anything, but in the background, as you drive, it performs the calculation over the next 45 miles. it can be done over multiple on/off cycles. so it's probably not a big deal that you're not getting a confirmation, sounds like that system is in place elsewhere with the same result. why you're not getting the map screen back may be the bug you mention.
