I've been reading a lot about increasing the tire pressure to 42/40 for optimal MPG. Is this true for the 2001 model as well? I've been following the recommended pressure in the manual for years. I'd like to be able to remember one set of numbers. I think they use the same tire so I would imagine same pressure would be fine.

Yes, the Classic (2001-2003) will benefit from increased tire-pressure.

Higher PSI will provide higher MPG, reduced wear, and better handling. The catch is road noise will increase and you'll feel bumps in the road more (which actually could be considered a benefit when driving on snow).

And I used 44/42 on my Classic. So you have a choice of how much to increase.
