I purchased a Fel-pro intake manifold gasket and it came with a throttle body gasket as well, the throttle body gasket has a little metal screen attached.

Has anyone used this style gasket? I'm thinking about just reusing the original TB gasket.

I tried to and it didn't work. The screen doesn't allow the gasket to sit far enough down in the slot. I reused the old one, which was fine. All the intake gaskets still looked new after 140k.

I vaguely recollect this came up before, the gasket having a little net. But can't find it. Seems like the stock gasket is readily available, and cheap:

I was just cleaning my intake manifold, at (low, I know) 85K kms I reused all gaskets, they looked ok. Did take them all out, clean the grooves, and wipe down the gaskets.

for normal the mesh is used to calm down the airflow (reduce turbulence) /

So, what does "reduce turbulence" mean to me for the modified throttle body gasket? More power, more MPG, less maintenance?

There was an intake manifold revision, and if I remember that thread right, the meshy gasket will fit on the newer manifold, but not on the older one. A plain gasket will fit on either manifold.

I've yet to see anybody offer a clear, substantiated explanation of what the mesh is there for. I'm sure there is one, that could be found with enough time in the library. I haven't searched hard enough either.

For those not running an air filter, it minces the incoming bugs into Itty bitty little pieces to prevent engine damage.

You also need to replace the gasket for the EGR pipe and a PVC valve while you're there
