I haven't spent too much time on the forums, and I'm sure this has been discussed before, so bear with me.

I'm thinking of getting a used Prius. Based on prelim research, it can't be older than 2008 or more than 130k miles.

However, I was just reading some threads suggestion that buying used could be a fools game and that the bill will come due for big ticket items (brakes, battery, etc).

What are the most common expensive repair items?
Is there a year or mileage that I should use as a cutoff for my search?

I test drove a 2008 last night with 130k miles. Everything seemed fine. $5000. Feels good to me, but if I get stuck with a $3000 brake job, then I might as well get a Corolla.

    Thanks

    welcome!

most prius are very reliable. gen 2's can run for hundreds of thousands of miles. a small percentage need a battery or a/c compressor, or brake actuator. but how can we tell you what you'll get? it's a roll of the dice in your favor.
