But rumors is that it may not be coming to America.

If it does then it makes sense why they would end the Prius v. They look similar with the long hatch space.

That sure will be my next car at some point.
My previous car was Avensis Wagon 2011 and new Corolla Wagon will replace it in the EU.
I liked the space of the Avensis and now same size will be available as hybrid, so yeah that car will sell good at least for me.

There's some nice lines you could accentuate with a vinyl wrap in that one... Bet it looks amazing in black...

Dang..that would make a GREAT replacement for the Prius v (wagon). I really hope they bring it to the USA.

This must have been the one seen in spy shots some months ago and identified as the new V just before the announcement came that the V was discontinued for North America. Really hope it comes here.

I like it. But I like the style of the Gen 4, as well. Much more sporty.

I think the current iM is a CVT -- not my power train of choice. Synergy Drive. That's the ticket.

There are two hybrid options - the 1.8 litre from the Gen 4 Prius and a new 2.0 litre hybrid system that will be the "sport" model. (The only non-hybrid option is a 1.2 litre turbo so yes the 2.0 litre hybrid system is the most powerful and still very efficient)

Now that most of Toyota's body/chassis are available (at least somewhere in the world) with hybrid powertrains, I feel it's getting harder and harder to justify making specific bodies for the Prius line.

In the US, the Prius v died because buyers preferred the RAV4 Hybrid. (I'm not going to make an argument about which is better, just referring to sales figures.) For the rest of the world, the Auris wagon fills the role of the Prius v.

The Prius C/Aqua can be easily replaced by the existing Yaris Hybrid.

The regular Liftback Pruis can be replaced by the Corolla hatchback/Auris Hybrid.

I believe the era of dedicated bodies for hybrids is coming to a close.

If Toyota wants to increase US sales, get RID of that big black monstrosity on the front!

Excellent points... Especially now that Tesla finally has the ability to produce a 1/2 million cars a year while their price point for Tesla buyers is dropping low enough to disrupt the luxury car market, which I suspect is where Toyota/Lexus is feeling the heat in long term planning...

So yes, it would make sense to simplify down to only the product lines that sells best/where they're still competitive, rather than to spread yourself to thin with too many choices, which is a necessity when you have all the ostentatious styling of the exterior of vehicles these days... But take a close look at the Model 3 Tesla and how advance and sophisticated the inside of the vehicle is, while the outside the design is a clean basic simple car that's design is timeless.

The rumor is that the Aqua/Prius c will be replaced by the Yaris hybrid.

This new Corolla will be replacing the Auris also; consolidation by shifting to one model.

The Prius has been losing sales in the US for years now. It will likely stay around has a halo model though, pushing maximum efficiency, and may become available as plug in only.

I wonder if that's realistic? I mean PriusChat folks were influential in getting Toyota to realize the value of adding more batteries and a plugin function, but those extra batteries came at expense of storage space and ride too high because there was no major chassis redesign to mount the pack as low and thin as possible. As in Toyota has chosen existing body & chassis design because it's a huge amount of work to redesign a whole new car from the ground up based on where the battery pack goes... It's this failure that will lead to Prius line being canceled and replaced with an EV sometime in the next 6 years once they give up on their failed Hydrogen ambitions.

The Prius is really popular in Japan. I don't see them abandoning it there, and the US will get the PHEV version for at least the CARB credits.

Toyota did blow it when they didn't design their new platforms for plug in batteries. It is easier going from that to any ICE car than the other way around. They may not have even been taking hydrogen tanks into consideration with it.

The Prius v spy shot has a head design identical to the Gen 4. I think this will come out for late 2019.

I agree that the mouth of the Corolla 2019 will not be appealing to everyone, and my guess especially women. So a less "aggressive" alternative and more feminine appeal should be available.

Yes. The Model 3 front is as simple and elegant as it gets. And fully aerodynamic (except once you add the license plate).

But we all should not adopt the same design. Uniqueness adds flavor and character.

Sonce the Corolla is smaller than the Prius, I would expect the new Corolla Hybrid to be smaller than the Prius v.

That grille is hideous, as most of them from Lexus and Toyota are lately.

And then plunk a license plate in the middle of it.

Toyota makes this very confusing, with different names for the same vehicle in different markets.

The car sold in the US as the Toyota Corolla Hatchback is sold elsewhere as the Toyota Auris. It is a hatchback that is slightly smaller than the Prius Liftback.

The car sold in other markets as the Toyota Auris Touring Sports is significantly larger than the Auris/Corolla Hatchback. It is what Americans used to call a "station wagon". I'm having trouble comparing the interior dimensions of the Prius v to the Auris Touring Sports because of the ways cargo capacity is measured in various markets.

Maybe a chrome aftermarket grill for the mouth will do. Something like this.
