Just today, this guy asked me: "Yeah, I like it. You got a nice car, but can it do highway speeds?"

What happens if the battery goes flat?
This was after I had just driven it 300km to a training seminar.

That reminds me of another one. I'm 6.2" and a friend asked me, "How do you fit in it?"

So far, I've been asked about:

    1) having to plug it in.
    2) where I find the fuel for it.
    3) having a top speed of 45mph
    4) how bad the expressway MPG is
    5) how far below EPA MPG I get
    6) how much the hybrid premium is and how long it will take to offset it in gas savings
    7) how far I can drive on electric only
    8) how much a replacement battery will cost
    9) how much battery performance is affected in Chicago winters

I've had people say they're interested but:

    1) It doesn't have enough acceleration
    2) It isn't big enough for more than 2 people
    3) There isn't enough cargo space
    4) It can't tow a boat or pop-up camper
    5) The gas savings don't offset the cost.
    6) It's so ugly
    7) It doesn't come in purple
    8) Small cars aren't safe enough
    9) The technology is too new

" I guess it only uses the corn gas" that's how the guy said it " corn gas"

I said E85, NO just plain ole gasoline, it is not a flex fuel vehicle at least not yet.

next ? was " was how long does it take to charge up?"

just tells me that people do not know enough about hybrids yet, and the manufactures (Toyota) should just offer more free test drives, with no salesman hassles or credit checks to make the gp more aware.

This is pretty much my list too, except for the purple comment.

Yeah Danny, I kind of like that list. Some of them I address at the ChicagoPriusGroup site. Others I think I will have to add.

I've been asked all the basic questions but can't say that I've had anything outrageously stupid. Of course, at car shows the first question I get is always, "so how do you like it?"

There was a red neck (self-admitting) coworker who was trash talking EVs, explaining that "limited range" makes them impractical for anyone. His concept of "limited range" was 150 miles per charge until I explained that I could drive to and from work for three days (and run errands) between charges. As Mr. Ed Begley said, "EVs aren't for everyone; they only meet the needs of 95% of the population."
