According to the recent Elon Musk email to all employees, the current quarter could be a record one in terms of the number of Tesla cars delivered.

Elon wrote that there is a chance to exceed the 90,700 delivered in Q4 2018 (the last quarter of full $7,500 federal tax credit and before the Tesla Model 3 expansion outside of North America), but production of 1,000 Tesla Model 3 per day will be required in June, compared to an average of about 900/day during the first part of the quarter.

I never understand the panel gap fixation. Unless it is really gross, who gives a rats. Compared to the ability to stop and go and go fast and enjoy it, gaps are pretty unimportant to me. I guarantee I never look at a car's gaps when I am buying. And the Teslas I've seen are just fine.

It is just something for the negative nellies and shorters to harp about.

I believe an unbiased study of the issue would show it to be something to only plague early production models, and is no different than the first year issues any new or redesigned car model experience. But it is Tesla.

yep, it's pretty much just the shorts trying to make a bigger deal of it than it is. they even produced a video that showed a guy with calipers going over the car

Gaps are mostly a cosmetic issue sure, but people also use it as a proxy for manufacturing process maturity/quality vs other luxury brands.

And it’s not a cosmetic issue for everyone - there’s a thread on TMC where April 2019 customers are complaining about their body panels scraping each other when opening doors.

My family owns a model 3. I think it's a design and engineering masterpiece. I also don't think that makes Tesla immune to criticism about the quality of their cars given the price point. But I guess nuance is not allowed on the Internet.

news of high Q2 production didn't stop cnn from writing another hit piece yesterday. citing Q1 sales as their only data, they claim it is proof positive that the tesla experiment is coming to an end.

Maybe wait a bit to try to time the trade war price nadir on this and other companies that strongly depend on international trade.

IMO Tesla is positioned better than any other car company for a trade war with China. Who else has a factory there?

Where do they get their magnets?
The S and X originally used induction motors over concerns over rare earth supplies. Now China is threatening to cut US off from them.

according to musk, the biggest issue is the computer chip, or main cpu.

I'm not saying they won't get hurt by this idiotic trade war, just that they are better positioned than most companies.

I agree that they are better positioned than other foreign automobile companies in China, especially for reasons you point out - manufacturing/Gigafactory there.

But if the trade war escalates enough they would not be spared.

I’m still long on the company and think they have a huge amount of untapped growth potential that they will ultimately realize.

from what i've read about pharma, we have a lot more to be concerned about with china than cars.
