that's a pretty cool way to beg for money. guess if I can give 1$ to corner street beggars ... it won't hurt to send them one too.

They've been selling "Full Self Driving" for so long. Then they would not even honor the original pricing when we were forced to pick another variant or cancel.

It's like asking those who bought it in the beginning to pony up more money for the truly functioning version, (even though it hasn't arrived yet)!

    Karma....

That is much cheaper than any of the other subscription requests I see to read numerous other media outlets, or even requirement to read numerous others.

I am not sure what you are speaking of.
Tesla has been selling Full Self Driving for quite some time, as you said. However, people who bought FSD got free upgrades to hardware as the hardware has evolved.

Exactly. It's basically a case study in over-promising and under-delivering.

It's a level 2 driver assistance system sold as a level 5 fully-autonomous system, when there's no indication when or if it will ever fulfill that promise.

I expected a civil case, not a criminal case.

People who were told their cars had FSD hardware and could upgrade to FSD software later were offered an "upgrade" to the hardware they already owned for $1,500.

    My upgrade was free.
People that didn't purchase FSD but wanted an upgraded MCU(??) could pay for it.

That civil case already occurred. Those of us who had the earlier Model S (2016 & earlier) were part of a class action that basically got a few hundred bucks, at best. The processors behind the massive screens were never capable of all the additional calculations to perform real self-driving, which is really not fully self-driving anyway. Same as an airline 'autopilot' batch of software. They still have to be able to take control if things go south.
After that, the boiler plate makes it clear that drivers must remain in control at all time.

I love the "autopilot" analogy, because of what it actually means rather than what the general public thinks it means.

When you have two pilots, one hand flying the plane and one not, they are called the "pilot flying" and the "pilot monitoring".

When the autopilot is turned on, you know what they are called then? They are called the "pilot flying" and the "pilot monitoring"!

Even when the autopilot has the controls, there is still a human designated to be flying the airplane, and another one monitoring.

When you have a single-pilot aircraft, that single-pilot is *always* the "pilot flying", whether the autopilot is on or off.

The problem with calling Tesla FSD "Autopilot" is that the general public thinks that means something entirely different than what it actually means. It's sort of like the wrong but common "but it's only a theory" argument against science because the word "theory" means something entirely different in science than it does in common usage.

Yes, I upgraded to full self driving to get the upgradea, knowing there was no way they wouldn't at least have to upgrade the computer - they have done it once on my car already. Had my car out of the garage for the tech who installed it, I expect I'll get at least one more upgrade.

But not for those who were told that they already had the hardware and would only need software. They were charged for hardware anyway.

And, regardless, no one has "full self driving" now, regardless of what they paid, and the date when that will be available is unknown, if ever.

of course .... that's because the general public doesn't buy a Tesla where you have to read all such disclaimers, just like a pilot has to learn that autopilot doesn't mean he can climb in the back and take a nap.
But thanks for all the hard work constantly digging up every possible tidbit against tesla.
Curiosity; just wondering why not so such diligence when Toyota faces the DOJ.

Justice Department Announces Criminal Charge Against Toyota Motor Corporation and Deferred Prosecution Agreement with $1.2 Billion Financial Penalty | OPA | Department of Justice

Of course Tesla's conduct is not the same as Toyota - because the OP clickbait article is really just "claiming" tesla "might" face criminal charges ..... whereas Toyota actually DID face criminal charges.
just curious ... because it's almost as though it seems the OP has a HARD-ON, for just one company ... searching - ever searching for "the-sky-is-falling" bad tesla news .... but gives a free pass to others

Not exactly "news" which is the title of this forum.

The article I posted in the OP was from today.
