Tachyon T1 Advanced OBDII Tool

I have four:

• MiniVic. I just got that this week, I haven't tried it out yet.
• ELM327 Bluetooth device (not great, but adaquate). I keep one in each car so I can connect to my phone or tablet
• ScanGuage II. It's standalone and works very well.
• Denso Toyota specific Handheld IT2 Tester. I keep it in the garage and it's flippin' Awesome!

Of all of them, I like the Toyota hand held IT2 tester the best. It's by far the most expensive. It's somewhat cumbersome, but it's by far the best tester/scanner I can find for the Prius. I can capture data, replay it on the tester or on a computer via a link. I can also use it to exercise components by turning them on or off, etc.. It's a very versatile tool.

I would not have bought one but needed this tool to cycle the ABS master cylinder pump to complete a brake job. It took me about a month to finally decide to bite the bullet and buy it due to the cost. Now that I've got it, I wouldn't be without it. It already paid for itself by not being chained to a dealer/shop to diagnose or fix problems that have, or may, crop up on the Prii that I own.

 

Does it record data:

• More than one controller at a time? - In particular MG1 torque and traction battery voltage and amps? I found the miniVCI does only one controller at a time with a little overlap with the standard OBD metrics.
• More than 2 minutes and 30 seconds at a time? - Again, this appears to be a problem of the miniVCI software that requires manual steps to save and restart the capture.

I have been using Graham miniscanners which let me capture a maximum of six metrics across the board. There is a subtle 'feature' that allows doublets capture at any two of the six sample intervals. Crude, I've been able to do some total energy studies by merging in GPS mouse data but it has not been fun. So I'm always interested in a new OBD tool IF it overcomes the limitations of the miniVCI.

I doubt it will answer all your questions, but it may help with some of them.

 

I have a Tachyon scanner with me and It works with Gen 2 and Gen 3 Prius and they claim that it support most of the new Toyota Hybrids.
Since it support only CAN protocols, it may not work with Gen 1 Prius.

 

Actually I'm talking about the Tachyon H1 Scanner for Toyota hybrids. Not the Tachyon T1 scanner for all Toyotas.
