I rarely use EV Boost so I was looking for a few pointers from you guys that use it a lot. While in EV Boost are there methods to use the ICE more while, say, going up a hill or something so as to not waste EV while doing this energy intensive activity? I figure the system is extremely efficient already, but just looking to squeeze a little more out of it like we do with everything around here.
I would just switch to HV mode if I want to sustain the charge in the battery. I like to think I know better than the computer so, ....
But I don't necessarily want to sustain a charge. Let me give you an example.... I have a trip mostly at highway speeds (65ish mph) for about 22 miles. What would be the best way to stretch out the EV over that whole segment?
22 miles one way and no charging at the destination? To stretch it, you want to use EV miles when gas is the least efficient (low power loads). That means, lower speed or downhills stretches. Computer is programmed to switch fuels or even blend both to get optimal but it has limitation. It does not see the road ahead but you do. So, you can plan ahead and in theory, you can make better decisions than the computer. If you do it right (use both fuels when they are most efficient), you'll get more EV miles and use the least gas.
