I don't understand. That looks like a Camry, perhaps. Are you going to compete with your Prius?

This is a sore point with me.

I do not like other motorists cranking their stereos so loud that they share it with the world. Or at least the several blocks surrounding them. I shouldn't be forced to listen to their music over the sound of my own radio with all of my windows rolled up.

I should not have the doors and windows of my house rattle like an earthquake because they have their subwoofer cranked. I should not have to feel their bass reverberating in my chest like I'm having a heart attack.

But mostly I fear that these enthusiasts are doing permanent damage to their hearing. And that bothers me.

I seriously feel many of these enthusiasts are going to go deaf. Literally. They are losing some of their hearing because of the decibel level and as they lose it they turn the audio up, can't hear it, turn it up again. It's a vicious cycle that will end in deafness. And all unnecessary. Just because it's music doesn't mean it's harmless. Some of these car stereos are worse than using construction equipment without ear protection. They can be louder than jet engines at the airport.

So sorry. I can't appreciate your enjoyment of your hobby. (Plus I like being able to use my trunk to carry stuff.)

Up until now I've always had subwoofers in my car since I was 17 (I'm 29 now). I was never one to blast it, but I do prefer my stereo to have some power and depth behing it. Ever since we had a baby nearly 4 years ago I pretty much don't listen to the radio much at all anymore other than background noise. Not sure what the effects would have done to his developing ears. The hearing damage is less then what someone working all day around loud machinery and fans. And surely less than someone who walks around with earbuds all day (huh what did you say)

Why do you care?

In this country in which we live, people are free to do anything like that they choose. If someone wants to make himself deaf, that's his prerogative.

If someone wants to fill his body with tattoos, which is equally bad for him (good luck finding a job), why should anyone else care?

Don't try to run someone else's life. Don't rush in as a busybody and tell him he's not allowed to do things like that which make him deaf. That's his choice, and his freedom.

At what point did Godiva say people shouldn't be allowed to do anything? She said she fears that enthusiasts will have hearing problems and that she can't appreciate their enjoyment of their hobbies. But she said nothing about stopping it.

What she did say is this ...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ Jul 10 2007, 02:57 AM) </div>
I agree completely. Don't I have a right not to be assaulted by someone else's music? Especially when I'm in the privacy of my own home! There have been times I haven't been able to have a conversation with my wife because the stereo in the car next to me at the stoplight is too blanking loud.

Go deaf if you want. Just don't bring me along with you.

looks ....ok. Very impractable though. 0 trunk left over because you wanted to build an amprack for 1 amp that took up the whole trunk, kinda dumb.

Your "car audio" sticker isnt level.

Is it a 1st gen prius? Tail lights look the same.

But it's so amusing when a loud system in an older vehicle makes it rattle and causes rust to flake off.

Sure. Free to do anything .... end up with med problems ... insurance pick up the bill .... so you & I end up with increased premiums. Freedom at another's expense is bogus ... whether someone's speeding .... smoking in a public place etc.

I think this blastatron sterio flys in the face of the Prius ... which most of us love due to its quietness. So why does a camry fellow want to put pics of his loud sterio on a Prius site anyway?

I too support their right to be stupid and damage their hearing until they are deaf. I mean it is their body. Just like second-hand smoke harming others, those fools with their "music" blasting so loud that one can hear it from two blocks away are also causing harm to the ears of those around them. I say write letters to your city police, sheriff, Mayor, board of supervisors, highway patrol, etc., and make your concerns known and request strict enforcement of the noise laws. Call your legislators and ask for stiffer fines for these idiots who enjoy their "music" at this level. It is about the continual errosion of our quality of life.

Very clean looking. I like the creative way you used the sides for mounting.

Q: What kind of sound deadening product did you use, how much of it, and where all did you apply the stuff?

I guess I fall in the younger crowd cause I find that pretty darn cool. I mean, I'll never do it cause I value my trunk space and I don't have the moola (and probably have better things to spend my hard earned money) but I always like to see a clean mod and this is one of them.

No flashy chrome lining or brash 50" LCD tvs. Just a nice clean amp, 2 woofers and lighting.

And don't forget all the renters who help subsidize anyone with a mortgage that takes that interest payment deduction on their tax returns.

Nice setup. I like my trunk space too much to do something as elaborate as that, though. What kind of equipment are you running in there? Any other specs you could provide us?

Don't worry about the haters, it's a competition vehicle, so it better be able to rattle windows and shake out dentures.

I think it is more amusing that people will drive a vehicle around that is worth less than their amp, not to mention their competition head unit. I actually knew a kid that I used to work with who bought a rundown Escort or Tempo for about $500, then 2 weeks later he had a $400+ head unit, then he redid all 4 of his main speakers and added tweeters with POLK speakers to the tune of another $300+, another few weeks go by and he added 2 12 inch Kicker subs and an ampt that could pump out 600w to both channels for about another $1000. And lets not even get started on the $1900 rims he added shortly afterwards.

I think the real "haters" are the people who make so much noise with their loud pipes and loud stereos that people anywhere near them are continuously interrupted and annoyed. They must really hate the people around them.

Because many don't know they're doing it to themselves. So it's not like they are making an informed choice. Those that sell and install the stuff aren't going to supply any warnings. It's slow, subtle and largely ignored until so much damage is done it's too late.

Earbuds with personal stereos cranked up are also a danger. It was mentioned above. But most aren't aware of that either.

Choosing to go deaf is one thing. Doing it to yourself through ignorance is another.

Maybe more people in this country should care about their fellow man.

With anything, there'll be people that will use systems responsibly, and there'll be some that choose to flaunt it. Just because someone has the power, doesn't mean they're going to abuse it. I don't think it's fair to the OP to assume that he's going to one of those people that choose to blow his hearing and annoy people with his setup.

I agree, that I have just as much of a right to silence, as this fellow has to making himself deaf.

-----

Tell me, where in Missouri are you located? I have a few...ummm...friends over there in your neck of the woods who'd just *love* the chance to take a real close look at your stereo...

So, would you mind listing off the equipment, piece by piece? I'm sure it sounds amazing.
