Steps for replacing Traction Battery with OEM

Your first challenge might be to find a dealer that would sell you a battery without installation. Some people have successfully used remanufactured batteries as cores but it depends on the dealer.
Your best bet might be @2k1Toaster ’s kit of new cells. I think the price is still $1600 shipped and you keep your old modules. His link is in my signature.
He is a trusted member here who works with rechargeable batteries every day. His warranty is 2 years Toyota OEM is one year if you do the installation.

 

I replaced my hybrid battery with a new Toyota battery bought at a local dealer. I got a great deal and I did a note about it here about a year and a half ago.

It is not very difficult but you do have to swap some parts. If you can do it on a work bench or table it will be easy. I did it outside on the ground. Just take your time. I didn’t have a helper which would make it a lot easier.

There is a thread here somewhere about the cheapest dealers to buy a battery. I found one not real far away and ask the local dealer parts manager to price match them. He did and even gave me a little more of a discount when I picked it up.

I did have to leave a large core deposit which was returned to me when I took my old battery back to them.

I don’t know about them taking a non OEM battery back. You need to ask the dealer. Try to talk to the parts manager.

You might try Miller Toyota in Manassas VA. I have had good experiences with their sales people, especially Sam Lee.
They are too far away from me (150 miles) to have service experiences though.
