I bought a new Prius (pakage 4) two weekks ago. On the drive home I realized that the steering wheel was noticably off-center to the right. I called my salesman and he told me that "that's the way they make them" and that I could come back to the lot and he'd show me other Toyotas like that.

I didn't accept that and made him call service and schedule an appointment. The dealer did an alignment and when I got the car back, the steering wheel was then off to the left further than it had previously been off to the right. I rescheduled and they worked on alignment some more and now the wheel is back to it's back to the original position, off to the right.

Is my dealer's service incompetent or can this steering wheel thing be unfixable?

Totally fixable, and your salesman is an idiot.

    i vote for incompetent.

anyone who can't straighten a steering wheel with how easy alignment machines are to use when properly trained... well... i wouldn't give them any of my business.

the tiedowns used for shipping can definitely mess up the alignment, no they are not made that way.

I second the incompotence vote. Find another dealer near you, call them, and explain the situation... since the car is still so new, they should fix it for ya.

Absolute, total B.S.!! There are valid reasons for having the Prius steering wheel centered correctly. Sounds like you may need to consider some other Dealer's Service Department for your future maintenance needs. A proper, complete re-alignment needs to be done without delay.
