    Hi guys,

So there's a rattle coming from my steering column over bumps, since I bought it. After a lot of reading/checking/trying stuff on my car, I am 100% certain that the repair that Ray did on this customer's Prius is precisely my problem. Now my question is, he went and took all this apart, and i'm wondering if there's a better way. Can that part of the motor be accessed without removing/pivoting the steering column? Can this be done just by laying down underneath the steering wheel? I realize it may be difficult to remove the old plastic but I figure if you can get the old gear out, and shoot it with compressed air it'll be good enough. I really don't want to risk damaging any of these components upon removal. If I could get away with just removing my seats for visibility i'd do that.

I'm asking because I've read some comments in various sources saying they found a better way but didn't really specify.

In my case i have a 13 Prius two, but he's working on a 3rd gen Prius V

Here is the video in question:

I'm out here looking at my solar roof car right now I don't think even with the seat out that will be a reality working on it from underneath like that You've got to get that cover off the motor up and out of the way to access the plastic from the top which is the way the motor is aimed isn't that right I mean I don't want to pull this whole car apart just to look at that right at this moment. But I've seen and heard about this repair and I've done similar on another car a very similar type of bushing and it was crushed and destroyed and teeth were broken off of it I mean unless the motor is facing down towards the ground I can't remember If that's the case then you might have a shot at that but the way he's taking the bolts off the top of the motor or the hold down two bolts while he's talking and doing it that looks like they're aimed up towards the ceiling or the roof of the car or the sky? So laying under the dash like laying on the floor of the car with the seat out is going to net you the wrong side of the business to be on I do believe. I don't even think it would be any faster I have a couple of these things off around here somewhere the steering assist motor assembly I don't think it would be any faster to drop the whole unit put the plastic gear in a unit that I already have off and swap out the assemblies I don't think that would be any faster You still have to take part of the dash apart and that's problematic in these generation threes You got to be real slow and easy because stuff will break and then it's hard to find some of it.
