    I have a 2002 Prius with 112k miles. Just this past week I noticed that when I make sharp turns around corners there is a light squeeling noise. My assumption that it is a belt that is starting to go bad. Looking in the engine compartment I notice that none of the belts are easy to get to. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this? Thank you in advance!

    There's one drivebelt, which powers the engine water pump and the air conditioning compressor (Classic only.) Since this has nothing to do with steering I doubt that the drivebelt is the cause of the squeal sound that you hear.

    What is the tread depth of your front tires? My guess is that they are worn and that one tire is slipping as you make a sharp turn, causing that noise.

    It's the outer CV boots. The folds rub on each other a little
    bit in a tight turn. The first time you hear this it sounds
    absolutely horrendous, especially when it's in the middle of a
    snowy night ... but I got the car in the air a while later
    and debugged it; it's largely harmless.

    "CV" = "Constant Velocity" joint.

    All front wheel drive cars have them.

    so the sqealing is not a harbinger of a $1200 repair or a impending accident?
