Spring 2019 Sat Nav / Software update 6.13.0 available

The Spring 2019 Sat Nav / Software update 6.13.0 appeared on the UK Toyota website, within the last few days, for those with Touch 2 systems. It's 7.3GB in size.

Installation went smoothly. I extracted the files from the .zip file onto a USB drive. I tried editing the .xml file and copied and pasted in my activation code, but like myself and others experienced last time, this didn't work and it still asked me for the code.

After plugging in the USB drive, and putting the car in Ready mode, it took about 30 seconds to a minute to realise there was an update to install. It showed a screen briefly with some icons on that implied it was "unboxing", then displayed the first image below.

I entered the activation code. Like last time, it went back to the code entry screen for a couple of seconds, leading me to think I'd entered the code wrong, before it then proceeded to the country selection screen. I chose to select my countries, and it had already selected the countries I already had installed.

It warned me that the radio would be reset as part of the update. As before, the only two settings I needed to set back was to change the units to Miles instead of Kilometers, and put Random Order on in the music section.

The system restarted, and displayed some screen for a couple of seconds, before showing the progress screen. The map update took me around 7 minutes, before it moved on to the other group of 8 updates.

The whole process took just over 20 minutes.

As the final screen (pictured below) shows, you then pull the USB drive out and the system automatically restarts. I changed the units to Miles and the Music order to Random and all was back to normal.

 

To be fair, I'm sure the Sat Nav will be usable for years to come. Most roads don't change much.

 

Sounds like a different country

In over two decades of driving, I think I've only had a couple of roads that changed enough to annoy me until I got updated maps. They built the Queensferry Crossing bridge across a river, and they didn't have my street (built in 2000) on the map.

That being said, the thing that annoys me with the previous map update is not the maps. While they did have the new bridge on, they had the speed limit as 50MPH, which indeed it was while they were still working on it for a short time after it opened. Then that speed limit was changed to 70MPH before I installed the update. So every time I take that route my Prius kindly informs me "The speed limit is 50MPH", and then I get paranoid that perhaps it might be because there are very few speed limit reminder signs and a ton of Average Speed Cameras.

Had to re-pair my phone via BlueTooth, as for some reason Google Home voice assistant wasn't working via the car.
