last week My neighbor knocked on my door in the morning to show me what someone did to my car. It had to happen overnight. I took pictures and then went to the car wash and it came right off. If I waited it would have been a lot worse. The police know about it just in case there is someone running around bleaching peoples cars. If it was targeted the police will take further action.

my question is.. it wasn't pure bleach because from what I read bleach wouldn't cause the windshield to have a ghost shadow or whatever you want to call it. So it was something else with bleach in it (it really stunk of bleach)

Anyone know of a way to bring a windshield back to clean and clear?

I don't know for sure, but a heat gun might drive off some of the liquid that's in the glass?

I don't think heat will work. I think some sort of good cleaner but don't know what.

First you go to the movie rental shop and get a few movies and a few cold ones.

After you slap her, pop in the movies, enjoy the beer and put your feet up. Your car will be cleaned soon.

Hopefully it did not contain some kind of acid that etched the windshield. I would have a professional look at the windshield and paint and make an insurance claim if necessary. The paint may look clean but still may have been damaged.

That is what i'm going to do if I run out of options. At least I have the photos to prove it.

I would think they used some cleaner that contained bleach. It is perhaps not well known that cleaners like Fantastik can etch glass and they warn not to put them on mirrors. If this cleaner had some of the same ingredients it may have damaged the glass permanently so I would inform my insurance company right away and tell them you are trying to get it worked out so they can't claim that you didn't advise them in a timely fashion. If it won't come off, vandalism is usually covered by most insurance policies. That windshield is very costly.

The paint, on the other hand, can almost certainly be polished or buffed clear.

What the heck is wrong with people. Why does someone go out and do such a thing to someones property. If you have a beef with someone, go see them.

Hope your car comes clean. f

That's what I've been asking myself since it happened. and I have no beef with anyone. Just a random act of cruelty. I was the lucky winner of bleaching.

Try some white vinegar in a small area of the windshield. I use it to get water spots off my windshield when I get hit by someone's sprinklers. I used to use it on the gelcoat of my boat and it cleaned lake scum right off and didn't hurt the gelcoat at all. Try it undiluted first and see if it works. If so, then try diluting 50/50 with water and see if that still works. Good luck!

I don't think chlorine bleach would etch the paint and glass like that (paint maybe, but not glass). Muriatic acid would though, and it would smell of chlorine too.

I went to auto shop. He said it's no acid and was most likely a cleaner with bleach. No damage to the paint. he said try car wax on the windshield and my friend recommended chrome polish which he used on his jeep to get rid of bad water stains.

I will try the wax tonight and see what happens.

Why would someone be pissed at me for the AP video? I didn't say anything bad.

No need to feel bad. Some people simply don't 'think' the way others do. So ... you haven't read in multiple posts that the 'less-than-a-second' hesitaion from brakes when you're racing over pot holes too fast is not a defect (rather it relates to anti-lock braking) ... and didn't even try to rub the junk out of your paint job prior to assuming the junk was easily enough removed. Ok.

So you're telling me that the "breaks" has nothing to do with anti-lock breaks? Yes I tried to remove. I never knew that car wax was good at removing stuff on windshields. Sorry I'm not as smart as you... OK

See I can be an a$$ too :)

We all know that the press cuts out a lot of interviews. They didn't include the parts where I said that the problem isn't bad at all. The interview was 30 minutes long

It was probably toilet bowl cleaner with bleach. A pressure washer doesn't take care of it?
