Should it take 10 days for a delivery to go 490 miles?

New to the Toyota and Prius world, and frankly I am infuriated by the process so far.

Paid a deposit on a Prius the dealership had listed as incoming. They told me it would arrive by 9/18. I called them on 9/16 to ask and was told that it was loaded on the delivery truck in Jacksonville and should be here in two days, making 9/18.

It is now 9/26, 10 days from when it was "loaded on the truck". They have no idea where it is and don't really seem to give a s#$t. They just say, its on its way, we will call you when it comes in.

Is this normally how Toyota dealers treat their customers? They certainly need to take a class on "setting expectations".

Now I start to think things like, did they damage it in shipment and are waiting for the repairs to be complete and are just lying to my face?

    Call Toyota directly and inquire.

It does take a long time to get them to us, I do not know why, but some are lucky to get them early and others are like us.
My dealer was supposed to get my car 2-4 days after I signed and it came in 9 days after and they tried everything to find out why it did not show up in time in the first place. But like people told me it is worth the wait, I know that is hard.
    Good luck

Thanks for the response, I'll just keep waiting :) Glad your dealer at least tried to find out something.

I would have been fine with them telling me that it might take 2 weeks from when they put it on the truck, but they practically guaranteed it would be here by a certain date, which wasn't even in the ballpark. Ruined a trip we had planned for this weekend due to our current car (old Lincoln Continental) being way too unreliable to take on a long trip. We just didn't go. With correct expectations, the trip would not have been planned.

I'll stop whining now and just go throw rocks at passing cars. Thanks again!

Sometimes it does take a while to get from port to the dealership. If you requested any additional accessories, these are generally installed at the port and hence, will delay your delivery.

I think mine took 1+ weeks and the distance from port to dealership was only about 100 or so miles.

BTW, Congratulations! You're going to love your new Prius! :D

p.s. all good things come to those who wait. :)

We ran into the same issues here in TX. Finally went to the New Care Sales Manager and asked for the Dealer Inquiry Report. They could tell from the report where the car was.

It only took us a week but the dealership was very difficult to get info from until I called the Manager.

    Driving 10 hours a day and 10 days, at 5 mph ...
perhaps the dealer (not "Toyota") sold "your" car to somebody else,
and they are looking for another car for you?

Waah, I am in the same position: Have a Vin#, my ship supposedly came into Newark on the 20th, but the car has yet to reach the dealership in Massachussets. I am so paranoid that they have ginve that same vin# to other people, from reading the posts.
If they screw me over this deal, I will make sure everyone knows the dealer name and location!

Well if they are looking for another car, they will have a hard time finding a blue one. Seems that in NC, most of the dealers allotments come in a variety of colors: white, sand, and white. Very few blue or red, which was the one request from my wife.

I don't think that is the case, but being that this is day 10 since it was "on the truck", I do wonder what is going on. If it were port options, which I believe would be the floor mats and bumper guard, I can't see that taking an extremely long time to install. If it did end up being the port options that caused the delay, then my dealer lied to me saying it was "on the truck" on the 16th.

The trucking companies should know right where their trucks are
at almost any moment, and should also know what is loaded
(probably by VIN number) on the truck.
Or, maybe your car was accidently unloaded somewhere and "lost"?

Talk to the manager to get him to find your car.
Or, maybe a manager at a different dealership can find your car?

Please People lets try (I know it is hard) to stay calm, I have not read of (not saying I may have maybe missed any) one person on here (in the past 2 or so months, at least) that the dealer sold their car to someone else!!

If you have a vin then the car will get to you (eveenntttuuuuaaallllllllllyyyyyyyyy), Toyota is behind for some reason or another, I do not work for them or anything like that, I know from my own and from others that had the same slow wait.

I saw the date on my dealer's sheet from Toyota and still if came 9 days latter, I have read somewhere on the net Toyota was looking into getting cars to dealers sooner, so I think Toyota is scheduling deliveries and can not keep the schedule date! This is why I tell people on here 3-4 weeks when the car arrives at port (some states get them early, I do not know why).

This is all my speculation (from reading others and my own experience's )!
I hope this calms you all down (I know the wait is stressful)
    Hope this helps
    Don

my 2010 took about 4-6 days. 3 days at the dealer for prep. my port is 110 miles away but considering i got the first one for my state, the call came in a lot faster than i had anticipated, but just have to ask you...

hows the weather?? from your location, i am guessing that anything that is supposed to be moving around might be delayed due to the flooding issues in the region.

we have had 2-3 day delays for package delivery in areas just south of you due to underwater transportation simply not being as efficient as the normal way.

i know it sucks when waiting. heck you got it made. it took me 6½ months to get my 2004. i thought they had forgotten about me. to make it worse, about 2 months before delivery, they send me a "congrats on your new Prius" package in the mail with a key chain, etc. TWO FRICKING MONTHS before delivery, so for two months i was expecting a call from the dealer!!

either way, you will get your car and it is worth the wait

This won't make you feel any better, but I'm also in NC and I ordered mine on a Wednesday (back in June), they said allow 30 days, took my trade and gave me a Scion to use. The following week on Thursday, the salesman called and said it will be here "tomorrow", that same day he called at 2 pm and said "It's here". The checkout sheet from SET was still in the car, dated the day before I got it, so the dates are accurate. Something happened to yours, I expect. I'd be surprised if the one you actually get is the VIN of the one they originally expected. Neither SET nor you dealer is in the business of delaying deliveries.

Just called them to inquire and as expected, same story. They have no idea where it is other than it is on the truck, headed to the dealership. Same thing I was told almost 2 weeks ago.

When I put down the deposit the sales guy told me that they "put a rush" on the transfer when a deposit is paid so it will go to the front of the line after unload off the ship. I was pretty sure this was BS when he said it, and now it most obviously is. Why do salespeople insist on lying constantly? Do they really think it helps them sell cars? Have they heard of this thing called the internet? where I can type Cox Toyota, Burlington, NC...
