I have just bought a 2001 Prius with 127,550 miles. Hybrid battery has been replaced with a used one and all systems seem to work fine except the shift lever in the "Park" position does not lock the transmission. No big problem as long as the Parking Brake works. Preliminary investigation does not reveal any easy fix. Has anyone dealt with this problem and has solved it? Bob Edwards
I have not dealt with that but I have heard of the shift lever needing replaced on some vehicles. An electic pawl holds the car in Park. Where are you located?
I was just there yesterday! If you can actually select Park, then the shift control ECU is probably operational. I would just double check the fuse under the hood that feeds the parking system (30A?). Simple things first. You might want to check the PCON-MTR relay as well. Pull it at make sure the relay is good.
Yup, I completely spaced that it was a 2001. You think that after all these years they would move the GenI forums out of the nested GenII forums...
