My 2004 has needed a number of normal repairs recently: new tires, new brakes, new sparks.
But I cannot seem to get it to have the smooth drive it used to. The drive feels "bumpy", a weird shakiness remains after wheel balancing. I heard from a UK taxi driver that poor suspension is a common problem with the Gen 2 models. Does anyone have any insight into this? I have given the 2004 to my daughter to drive and the shakiness worries her. We want to make sure it's safe. Mechanic can't say what it is..

    Thanks

Be aware the G2 mag wheels are super easy to bend. Very light wheel.

Especially if have hit a few potholes hard. Mine had the shakiness and took me quite a while to figure it out after I got new tires the shaky got worse.

Took the car to another tire store and that tech figured it out real fast.

Super easy to test for bent wheel just spin the rear tires. Really easy to see run out or wheel wobble. Should have no run out at all not even slight. Then take the front tires and put them on the back and spin them. I think you will find a bent rim or 2.

Cant spin the front tires thats why they must be moved to the rear.

Its my wifes car. It had 3 bent wheels.

The other thing it could be if you are referring to it being shakey when the ICE stops, is a sign that the HV battery is getting towards end-of-life.

All is not lost though, quite often all it needs is for the HV battery to be reconditioned and it runs smoothly again.

Really? I thought wore out engine mounts caused this?

Yes, could be that too. Easy enough to inspect and decide if it could be that.
