    10/24/2015.
I just purchased a 2015 Prius C Two. got the price down good. My brother in law helped me to do that. But when it was time to sign the financial papers, he didn't want to sit in the room any more. He did advise me to say "No thank you " to everything and if the finance guy want to explain something to you, just say " I really gotta go". But when I was there alone, I suddenly felt maybe this is good idea to get the 7 year coverage VSA - Vehicle Service Agreement, since the guy said oh its all electronic now new tech. When I walked out of there, my brother in law got so mad that I gave Toyota $3600 for VSA and Gap. He was furious at my stupidity.

I am calling Toyota on Monday 10/26. If I can change my mind I am going to !!

I read from other chatrooms that I need to call the Toyota Finance department and they may either cut me a check or make my contract from 61 month to shorter. I was lucky to get the 0% interest 0 down when signing the deal on Saturday. Will share how I do.

Your brother-in-law should have smacked you in the back of the head.

If the VSA was financed the refund goes back to the finance company. The gap insurance may or may not be a good idea or deal. If the car is deemed a total loss they will want the balance of the loan just about immediately. If you can't cover what the auto insurance didn't pay then you need gap insurance.

The gap insurance may be cheaper through your auto policy. I'd be surprised if it is cheaper through the dealer because someone has to pay the middleman.

Get your 3,600$ back and stay away from that particular dealer on your next purchase, don't let anyone tell you that you can't cancel the two transactions, pay attention to exactly where the money is credited to, or subtracted from.
Now tell your sister to deal with her husband more efficiently, he's wandering.

    Hi Everyone,
just an update of my getting the VSA + GAP removed.
the ESQ at my company informed I should send in a certified letter stating my request, that's exactly what I did on Monday 10/26. I did call the finance guy and left a message on Monday. I also emailed both the finance guy and his boss, and each day I resend the email again adding "awaiting your assistance." Surprisingly, on Wednesday 10/28, they called me before the certified letter was delivered. ( since it is certified I could track it ) I think the boss knows that customers now a days have a voice now and we do share and gather all customer opinions. ( also I told the sales guy the certified letter was coming ) The finance guy made up something ( maybe he was't making it up but since he tried to sell me something solely for his own commission I didn't trust him that much any more ) about one only way he could rewrite the contract was to buy back the vehicle from Toyota Financial Services blah blah blah. I asked him bluntly, was this going to cost me some fee or is it just extra work for him. He told me it was only extra work for him and I asked him nicely to help me and he did. I went in the dealership to sign the documents and it only took less than 5 minutes. Now my monthly payment is at the number it should be. YAH ! so happy !

    no smacking people be nice.

    Greetings and Welcome Aboard!

I'm glad that things worked out, and you got to learn the 'just say no' lesson without the $3k price tag.
Next time......in about 8-10 years if you're smart, consider getting pre-approved for credit through a local bank or a credit union.
I prefer CUs myself or smaller banks for a variety of reasons (like selling personal info) and you'll almost always come out money ahead if you ignore the teaser rate and shoot for a lower cash price with a pre-approved loan.

    Meanwhile......enjoy the new car!

    Good Luck!

OK...yeah, I'd probably recommend cancelling the service contract. That seems excessive.

*** I see you did get it cancelled...good for you.

But I'd also say, your Brother In Law shouldn't be mad.
Why didn't he stay in the room with you?

If you go to help someone through the deal? You stay until the contract is signed and the deal done. Leaving you alone in the room with the finance manager as the contract was being completed was like lowering you in a Shark Cage and then opening the door as he swims back to the boat. That's EXACTLY when someone new, needing help really needs the support, because YES, that's when a lot of dealerships like to sneak in things just like service contracts and gap insurance.

Glad it worked out for you. And...now you are probably more experienced for any future automotive purchasing dealings you might be involved in.

I called Toyota Financial Services on Friday, told them I was going to cancel the coverage, the person said I had to submit a letter for cancelling directly. Sent a Certified, return receipt letter to them yesterday and hopefully they will make the $$$ adjustments. They will need your current mileage, and you have, I believe, up to 60 days to cancel, with only a $25 service charge...

The financial manager was vague as to what I was signing up to, but I was confused as to the price and coverage, and I have made the adjustment with Toyota Financial. I am going to save $2700.
