I bought my 07 Prius in August/22 with 66K on the odometer. I have no history on the car so I did the usual preventive maintenance. I believe the belt to be the original 07 belt. It appears OK. I see many thougths on this subject. Is the consensus to simply change the belt as it is old (not mileage but just age) or keep going. Also, any thoughts on the best belt. I see some say buy a Toyota and then I see others who say they are not as good as AC Delco and others. Thanks guys.

Just get the OEM from the dealer, they're only like $20.

Serpentine Belt – Part Number: 9091602570 MSRP $19.99.

Shop around. You might find a discounted price or a voucher you can use.

Gates makes some of the best rubber products around . Period . I think the belt on my '09 is the original and it's now coming up on 308,000 mi many things have been replaced but that water pump and that belt are still original and there are barely any hairline cracks on the belt that you would normally see at 5 years back in the day That's not a testament to the Toyota belt being Superior is just that that belt is not under any kind of load It spends a water pump when a clutch allows it to other than that it's just freewheeling it's not driving anything serious like an air conditioning compressor nothing. So it is a very low stress component other than that it's going around and around some pulleys. So not something I would worry about as far as I'm concerned it can break like it does on a regular ice engine then of course you just replace it like you do any other car The thing is is it'll take a long time for these to break generally from what I understand everybody is ready for my water pump to be replaced it 90 100 110,000 here I'm sitting at three I do believe this is all original this car The people that own this car didn't even like to put gas in it let alone put tires on it or do any maintenance but this is just my car your vehicle and situation and area may be completely different generally the broken belt results will be similar or the same.

Now that is funny! LOL. Thanks for the information. My car only has 69K at this point and it is like new. Just love the car! Thanks so much for the incite and helpful thoughts. Literally a old lady owned it so I am not sure what she did to it. Ps. The only real issues I have is the ABS pump. Expensive item but I am sure I will be able to replace it myself. As I am driving the car, the pump comes on for a few seconds then goes off for 7 seconds and this repeats constantly. Sounds like a valve seal to me but since rebuilding kits are not available I have been trying to find a rebuilder. There are a few out there but to date none rebuild the generation 2 Prius ABS pump. Posted on that topic before and many say just live for as long as you can. The brakes work perfectly except for the pump starting and stopping..... but no lights on the dash. Thanks again!

I just found one of these little old lady cars like you got it LKQ with 94,000 mi tap lightly in the back end. I bought the ABS pump actuator and all the other little bits and took the hole interior out of the car because it was 10 times nicer than mine I put most of it back into my '09 which was just a commuter car for four people to go to a big factory every day and sit out in the sun and bake all day never anything eventful happened with this car The one I drive. I've replaced the ABS pump once seems to be working fine You can do the same there was a rebuilder in Florida now he's vanished or he was maybe not legit I bought two pumps off of them One is installed working and one I sold to a buddy here.

If you plan on doing your ABS actuator assembly at some point, make sure you have a capable scantool that can do the complete bleed procedure and the "solenoid offset relearn".

Choices are; some flavor of TechStream (legit or pirated), a "high end" aftermarket scantool, or the ThinkDiag app and device from ThinkCar.

The Prius are amazing cars and maintenance is VERY user-friendly for the DIYers. I agree with Mr_Guy...you'll need a high-end scan tool with that ABS system.

The serpentine belts are in the category of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" because you can inspect them easily and just replace when you see dry rot or cracking or it getting super-shiny on the outside of them. I do replace my radiator caps every 10-years in all of my vehicles...haven't seen a one, even Toyota, that looks trustworthy after being in there for that amount of time! (Rusty spring and the inner-rubber is usually almost always pretty ate-up.)

Show me where it says use an AC DELCO belt
on this car So I can avoid that site.

Use only Toyota parts on this car. Buy them online I like Olathe Toyota Parts online they do a good job.

At 66k mikes you are aware how hard that low mileage is on the hybrid battery right? A long lasting hybrid battery is one that is driven everyday. You might want to think about pulling the hybrid battery out and addressing the interconnect corrosion on the wires as it may have extensive corrosion.
There are thousands of battery posts start reading.

Just remember a 2007 or 9 car with an original hybrid battery in it that hybrid battery is old. Unless it's been replaced I thought you had the car through the 60,000 mi so you would know this I generally it's 60,000 mi I wouldn't expect that the car had the hybrid battery replaced personally a regular person would never go for that they would be like that's impossible this car has no miles on it It's not even broken yet a Toyota is not broken in till it has 100,000 mi on it in my world anyway that's still a brand new car per se.

No, the hybrid battery. I did a test using the Dr. Prius app which reported the battery was at 92% and considered, new. WOW! There is a used car dealership near me that specializes in selling and repairing Prius' and one of the employees was nice enough to look at my battery to confirm what I learned. He said it was relatively new.
Ps. Do you know if a Bando brand serpentine belt is OEM Toyota? I wanted to replace the belt as I am going on a very long trip and for the little a belt costs, the piece of mind is worth it. The belt on the car was installed by the previous owner at a Toyota dealership (don't know which) but it is a Dayco brand. The OEM I purchased from a Toyota seller is marked Bando with Toyota and the part number on the outside of the belt. Just don't want to get stranded! :)

I would imagine bando is probably a supplier to Toyota and most other manufacturers they make belts for some of my Italian scooters. Just depends on who they want to buy from at any given time I'm partial to Gates belts personally but that's a personal problem. I've used daco as dayco make some belts for some of my products that I can't get from other manufacturers. Point blank they just don't make them they're generally CVT drive belt.

Thank you the information. The older I get the more suspicious I get....LOL. I've never had a belt break in my 45 years of driving so I don't want to start now. The belt I took off actually looked real good. It had about 30 thousand miles on it according to the records I had. My brother said, change now and bring the old one on the trip. At any rate, I really appreciate you taking the time to write back. ;)

That's very cool Rick. Yup the original hybrid battery failed from sitting.

Next keep an eye on the engine oil use high quality oil and the oem oil filter and check the oil level once a week before starting the car and top it off even if its a tiny bit low and that car will go 300,000 miles easy. Engine takes 4 quarts of oil with a new filter.

Drive the shit out of it the hybrid battery needs to be driven every single day. Those are the ones that last the longest.

I have been doing exactly what you suggested. Only the best oil and filters, oil changed at 5K and original parts. I don't put the miles on it the car that it needs so I take it for a ride to give that battery some "exercised." So far, the car has been great. I keep researching to find out how things work. This site has been great!!!! The guys bailed me out when my MAP sensor gave me an issue. One of the guys recognized the symptoms I had with my car and nailed the problem. He told me to check the MAP sensor and if the sensor is black and not red, clean it! I took the sensor out (it was filthy), cleaned it with the correct spray, put it back in and the car was running again. Saved me who knows how much! Thanks again for your comments and help!

Ok your good for 500,000 miles lol! Excellent!

Replace the inverter coolant. Its extremely easy.

Replace the trans fluid. Only have to do that once to get the original fluid out that has all the initial wear in it. Trans is pretty much good for life after that.

Replace the engine coolant. This one is very easy. Go buy 2 gallons of Toyota LLC coolant. There's a dump bolt on the bottom of the rad on drivers side. Open valve dump the rad close the valve fill it back up. No air lock drama. . Do that again in a few months. That makes an excellent impact on improving the coolant health without invoking the dreaded airlock which with this car's CHRS bottle is a super big pain. Dont dump the engine block coolant don't go there.

The G2 has a huge windshield cross section. Go on weathertech.com buy there insulated window shield worth it. That shield will last 20 years. keep the cabin as cool as you can if the car lives outside. Heat is the main stressor for battery's especially the hybrid battery.
I also built a insulated shield that sat on the back package pull out protector. Kept the sun from beating on the rear package area/hybrid battery area. Looks like you have a good tint that will help.

At 66k miles your approaching end of life for the little inverter coolant pump. They last about that long sometimes longer sometimes shorter depending on the quality of coolant. Buy a coolant pump from Olathe Toyota parts online so you have one in stock. Do not put a parts store pump in the car they are not Toyota quality.

And my favorite is a Wheelskin leather steering wheel cover. The steering wheel on a g2 is very rough. A new high quality leather wheel makes it feel like a new car. Those last 20 years also maybe more..

All of these replacements details on how to do it best can be found by searching old posts using the search forum link on top of this page.

Here's inverter coolant pump posts for instance:

Thank you for al the information. I really appreciate it. I was speaking with a Prius mechanic the other day and one of the things he mentioned was changing the radiator coolant is important as it breaks down faster than the inverter coolant. As I am taking the car on a long trip, I will be doing some PM to avoid AAA! Thanks again!
