Serious design flaw 2017 Prius c (or is it just my car?)

Just wondering what is up with the console reflection appearing on my windshield whenever I am driving during the day (unless I am in total shade). In direct sun, the view of my surroundings is completely obliterated; in indirect sun, I just see the row of airflow boxes along the bottom. In both cases, I find it a huge distraction while driving. I have had the car for a few months now, and had hoped to get used to it, but it is still bugging me, especially when doing road trips. Is it just my car?

Is your dashboard top cover flat black ? It should be......for this exact problem.

You haven't had extra tint added to the windshield, have you ??

And no I haven't noticed that at all.

If you really have all stock equipment, you might need a "fuzzy" black dash cover........or polarized glasses.

I've noticed the same thing on my 2013 Prius v. Once I had the side windows tinted it did help. I also ordered a velour dash cover in black from Coverking but unfortunately it has its own sheen to it. I didn't want to go with the carpet, but it probably would have been more matte. The velour cover was still an improvement.

For me I think the detailing cleaner the dealer used made the dash extra shiny as well.

I haven't had a chance to try polarized glasses but it makes sense that they would help.

From my experience with other cars in the past, never polish the top of the fascia below the windscreen. It is always best left dull and non reflective.

    G'day,

In my 2016 'c', I always wear polarised sun-glasses driving during the day. These cut the annoying reflections (which are mostly 'horizontally' polarised light) almost totally as the polarised glasses transmit mostly vertically polarised light.

And yes, I'd agree this is a design flaw for the 'c' with its combination of different surfaces on top of its dash. None are particularly non-reflective. I noticed this problem coming from an 2003 Toyota Echo to the 2016 'c' although the Echo (and wife's Yaris) tend to have larger and more sloping dash tops compared to the 'c''s more horizontal top, that may alleviate the problem in these older vehicles, as well as the single dash-top material itself.

The glasses also reduce road glare.

Provided you don't keep losing them like I'm prone to  , glasses should be cheaper than a black carpet dash mat.

The major problem with polarised glasses is that the glass cockpit (modern flat screens) are almost unreadable through them, so they're useless in the Gen 4 Prius. I paid extra to get plain tinted clip-ons

    G'day RCO,
Maybe what is needed in that situation is the equivalent of multi-focal glasses - top half with the polarising filter, the lower half nothing, or non-polarising filter if light reduction is still warranted  .
Or the inverse or upside-down version of narrow framed or half-frame reading glasses :D ?

    G'day RCO,

Sorry, but no analogue dials in any cars I've bought this century, including my Prius 'c'.

And thanks for the thought but there was no need to translate your reply into Strine. Having one quarter of my genes from there, I'm OK with Cornish ;) .

I had a dash cover. No problem.
