01 prius has triangle with exclamation and car with exclamation. i used a scanner and came up with code 3002. anyone know what this code is? Mark
According to my doc, it's "HV Battery Control System: P3002 HV ECU Communication Malfunction". In the '01 there are dedicated data lines between the various controllers, as opposed to a common CAN bus, and in the case of the battery ECU and P3002 the differential data pair in question is called HTD. So it might be a loose harness connector into an ECU or an actual wiring problem somewhere between front and back. Any collision repairs or potential for wiring damage in the car's history? . _H*
For P3002, check your 12V battery voltage first. Note that I did not yet say to replace 12V battery. Let vehicle sit ~ 20 minutes before checking voltage.
There has been a lot of history of marginal 12 V batteries throwing misleading codes but Hobbit is right about the two signal lines. You might try putting a charger on the battery and seeing if you can get it started. After three restarts, the error indication should clear. If it is the 12 V battery, I understand Sears carries a compatible battery. Alternatively, searching for "12 V" in the forums and you'll see some of the alternatives. I believe Hobbit used an Olympia battery and I went with an Odyssey, which can be gotten from Batteries Plus. Some assembly required for the last two options. How many miles? Did you buy it new or used? Do you handle your own maintenance, oil changes and stuff? Bob Wilson
thanks. i did have a bad 12v. i replaced it and i still get the same codes. i bought this used a short time ago. there is no history of damage on it. it had been sitting for quite sometime(maybe 2 or 3 months) since the owner passed away. i will check the harness next. thanks
Do you have the maintenance manual? This can give you a road map to diagnose the problem. For example, the traction battery control interfaces are located at the rear, in the trunk: You'll need a pair of needle nose pliers to compress the locking tab for the two right connectors. The left most connector, we had to take the fan housing off. The hybrid vehicle ECU is located under the passenger side floor on the sloped part under the carpet. It looks like this. It would help if we could see any additional codes. I have a Graham miniscanner coming off of rental, if you're interested. As for maintenance manuals, they come up on Ebay from time to time. Volume 1 has the diagnostics and volume 2 the mechanics. The Electrical Wiring Diagram manual maps the signals to the connectors. Bob Wilson
