Has anyone installed a ScanGuage II on a 2012 Prius? Any problems, guidance or comments before I install one on my new car?
    Many thanks

That guage was made for cars like this.
Do an advanced search in genIII forum for scanguage install or the like.
    You'll find a zillion comments/ideas/reports on it.
    Maybe 2 zillion.

The scangauge is a very old outdate piece of technology. It is a single row of text that is very hard to make sense of.

I would recommend a Bluetooth OBDII cable, a used android phone and the app Torque. This looks way better and fully supprts a 2012 Prius.

Check out this shot of it showing ICE, MG1, MG2 speed and temp.

I have two scangauges on my 2010 Prius- each scangauge is attached to a large metal paper binder clip. The Scangauges are daisy chained together via a home made white RJ-45 Cat 5 network cable. Each paper binder clip holds onto the ledge/visor that is over the center console LED display... The 3M velcro adhesive tape that comes with the Scangauge II will not stick to the grooved dashboard surface of the Prius but will stick to the smooth flat surface of the large metal paper binder clip.

    ...
GPH, RPM - to tweak the most power out of each gallon of gas.
Flv - don't run out of gas...11.5 to .5 gallons...
SoC - don't let the HV Battery drop below 50% state of charge..
FwT - If the engine coolant reaches 165 then the Prius is P&G ready!
AVG = I use this instead of resetting the Trip Odometer each trip.
IGN,TPS, MPG = for getting to super highway mode

The display isn't fancy but I really do need the GPH(Gallons per Hour) xgauge to hypermile.

mis-spelled? what? ..........after 7 years in high school!
the smartphone really does show a nicer display and is more easily read..but...
what if i didn't have a smartphone, just a regular phone without a data package
i could probly buy a used smartphone with a good display and use it to run the cool apps for the car.
not actually use it as a phone, just use it like a little portable pc, leave it hooked up in car
all i would have to have is bluetooth on the phone
    should work shouldn't it?

You can get a really cheap phone from craigslist or ebay. You do not need phone or data service. Put the phone on WiFi and go to the market and get the app.

    like both ideas, especially tablet
wouldn't ever want data or wi-fi but would have to somehow get the
    app loaded onto the device

i'll probly start by looking for an appropriate mount for device and then find unit with proper b'tooth that will work with Prius as other features won't be important

If you buy a Scangauge II after seeing the pics posted here you will not be happy. Everything on the pic above is clear to read. This is hard to read

the dell streak 7" android tablet/4g works pretty well for torque. also has auto adapters and dash mounts available.

Look like they go for about $100 on ebay.

I have and use the Scangauge II in my 2012 'Brid (also used it in my 2008 'Brid). I like that it's always there, never has to be turned on or off and shows just what I need.

I have the same set up as WEOH above. I mounted it with heavy duty 3M velcro just behind the steering wheel. Snake the cable down to the data port and coil the spare cable up and out of sight with a zip tie.

I like it. Also pretty easy to program things like turn on or off the back up beep, etc..

In the case of NOT using an SG2:
It looks like you have a multitude of items to monitor just like the scangauge.
BUT...looks like you can choose more than 4 and arrange them in sizes and such to suit your needs on the available screen size?

The same information can be displayed either on a SG2 or Torque - both poll the ECUs via the OBDII port the same way. As you guessed, Torque allows you to display more than 4 dials at once in any orientation you wish and varying sizes.

Same data, different means to display it.

    here's some more pron:

another nice feature of Torque is that with the data connection, even just wifi, you can have your data uploaded and mapped over long periods of time. So when you think something has changed, you can go take a look at the data from last year and compare it to the current year. Maybe your favorite gas station has changed suppliers, or those new tires aren't as good as the last set.

all xlnt arguments for the Torque side
does Torque run on any version of Android OS?
i've seen a lot of devices running Android up to 4.0
