Scangauge11 Installation

I just got my Scangauge2 today and found you are correct it fits very nicely inside that area. Plus the unit is protected from the sun and theft, when the lid is closed. No special mounting required other than routing of the cable. I think I am going to remove that inside tray because the radio causes it to get hot in there and this would improve ventilation.

 

I installed mine today. I routed the cable behind everything, removed the felt in the tray and drilled a hole big enough for the cable plug to fit through. I put the hole in the center rear bottom of the tray, it was easier to drill from the bottom. Now if I want to use the tray for storage again, I just have to put the felt bottom back in and it covers the hole. I don't have my ScanGauge2 solidly mounted, it's just sitting snug and is fine.

:lol: Just installed Scangauge II in my 2006 Prius. Haven't calibrated gas tank or consumption as of yet. However, I'll provide further details of unit after a few refueling. So far everything works well. Thanks Prius Accessory Store for quick delivery of item. This is where I installed the head unit. No drilling, just plain ole Velcro and wire ties.

 

I didn't want velcro sticking up the plastic on my car. That stuff doesn't come off after you remove the velcro.

Does keeping the scanguage plugged in the obd plug all the time run down the battery? I have heard conflicting stories.

I have positioned my Scangauge in the same place, centered behind the steering wheel where I can easily see it when I'm not turning the car. I fed the cable through the gap between the steering column and the dash; there's just a short length showing, the rest being neatly tied up behind the dash.

In use, this has been very satisfactory. I can keep an eye on the guages when I need to, and I can easily reach the buttons if I have to.

Once you set it up for Hybrid, it will shut down seconds after you turn the car off. So the answer is no.

Thanks for the compliment. Gauge location is ideal for viewing and not cluttering the rest of the dashboard.

I just got my SG2 today and want to do the same install. Is it definitely safe to drill a hold from underneath the storage area upward? There arent any wires or anything that could be damaged?

 

Yes it is safe but you have to still take off dash panels to remove the lower portion of the tray panel. That takes more time than drilling the hole and routing the cable.

Once you take the panels off you can get a drill under the tray. If you want to take the tray out to drill, it will require taking out the radio because the tray bolts are hard to get at. It is easier to drill the tray from underneath. I drilled the back center of my tray but if it is easier for you to drill near the front of your tray, I am sure that would be fine. Just remember to take out the felt pad first. And the hole will be bigger than the cable as the plug has to get through it.

 

Ok, i'm finally ready to do the install. I've been searching high and low for directions on how to remove the dashboard paneling to run the wire. Can someone point me in the right direction?
