ScanGauge II: Inverter temp? (used with grille blocking)

I've seen info about an XGauge for inverter temp on the Gen II but nothing yet on the Gen III.

My understanding is that the current ScanGauge cannot display the inverter temp.

The ScanGauge II being on sale currently, I'm debating if I should buy one or not. One of its use for me would be to monitor the inverter temp as I am blocking the grille (See this thread), with the cold temps here in the winter.

Is it only a question of time before a Gen III Inverter temp XGauge becomes available? If so, how long should the wait be?

With full grille blocking in place, I want to avoid pushing the inverter temps too high and learn about the cumulative damage to the solid-state circuits long after the warranty has ended, especially since this is a new generation and the physical setup of the two radiators has been reversed (inverter radiator now on top).

Does anyone have a better answer than mine?

I read it, so what is your answer?

Are there other parameters/data that can tell if the inverter is getting too hot? :

    • Can we see how fast the inverter water pump is running?
    • When the inverter needs more cooling and the water pump/passive radiator are not enough, does that trigger the radiator fan(s)? Is this a signal we could use?
    • In a cold outside temp with a blocked grille, can we still make a correlation between the inverter temp and MG1/2 temp? Can we look at their temp to deduce when the inverter is getting too hot?
And of course, can an ScanGauge Xgauge monitor it?

We, Japanese folks, have not found the CAN message for the inverter coolant temperature yet.

Does anyone know how the scan guage trip average mph is calculated? Mine seems low. Maybe I don't understand the process. Thanks

I think a more fundamental question is whether there is even a thermometer for the inverter water temperature.

I think cars don't have a thermometer for oil temp. So no matter what the scan guage can do, you won't get oil temp.

I think maybe the inverter pump just runs the cooler the better so there is no need to monitor the temperature. Without a thermometer installed, it will be hopeless to think we can use a scanguage.

Yes, there is the inverter coolant temperature sensor.

I bought a scanguage II on priuschat. I did not know that x-guage did not work on the Prius III. But you know so good for you.

You asked a good question. I don't know. If this is important, I suggest you hold off until they come out with an X-guage that works. There is no hurry since you can't tell the inverter temp now anyway - scanguage or not.
