I was intrigued by the ability to send command strings via the ScanGauge II. What kinds of things will this feature allow you to do? In particular, I was wondering if there was a way to program the customizable parameters listed in the service manual (normally this requires a very expensive Scan Tool as I understand it).

Does anyone know where I might find detailed information on this topic? I see the ScanGauge website has one example of using the CMNDS feature to query emissions test status, but that's all I found in my initial search.

Also, can anyone point me to good DTC reference sites? I'm especially interested in hybrid-specific codes for future reference.

Don't know what you can do on a Prius II but I found some stuff for Classics

Most of the hybrid data is in CAN messages, which, to date, the Scangauge II can't decipher. Unless mine is overdue for an update! I left a message on their website asking if I can get or need an update yet. IF the Scangauge II becomes CAN literate and can display CAN parameters, I'd like to use two Scangauge IIs at once. For eight "gauge" display parameters.

Yep... the commands I tried silently failed.

    Too bad.

David, I posted this information in another thread (Prius Modifications section). The Scangauge II will soon (in a couple weeks or so) become CAN literate via a firmware update. Call the folks at Scangauge to find out more.

OK... I think I figured it out:

There is a list of PIDs that do work linked at the end. This may give you some data available but not on one of the gauges because it's rare to have support for it.
