    Background:

I use an EBH and have CAN-View and DICE. Since the DICE install sometimes the MFD won't show the CAN-View upon start-up, esp. if I put the car in gear and start moving quickly after "READY". Since I use CAN-View extensively when I drive for efficiency this is annoying. So, when I notice this has happened, I'll shut down the Prius and restart it, wait a few seconds for CAN-View to come up and then be on my way.

    New and interesting finding....

Yesterday as I was leaving work (ICE was warm due to EBH) this same no-CAN-View situation occured. A couple cars in the garage had stopped to chat so I just stopped and shut down the ICE (which had just started running...maybe for 3-5 seconds maximum). I waited a couple seconds, then restarted. Ready came up, the ICE started running almost immediately (no 7 second delay as usual). Since the 2 cars were still blocking my way chatting I didn't start moving right away (can't recall if I'd put the car back in D or was still in Park) After running for maybe 3-5 seconds the ICE shut itself down! So there was maybe a total of 10 seconds maximum of S1 time.

    Confirmation....

I may play with this a bit more over the next couple days...would be great if a few others of you could do the same to see what we come up with. I'm not sure this is a great idea as I have to wonder if I'm totally avoiding important emissions controls, but it's interesting none-the-less.

How long does S1 last normally with EBH? Just trying get a picture of the impact of your discovery.

    I'd say a minimum of 20-30 seconds.

I'll time my S1 interval when I go to lunch. I parked at 8:45 AM this morning so there will be about 3 hours of "cooling" down period. I will record the outside temp also.

I will time again when I leave work and again tomorrow morning.

BTW, I don't have CANVIEW but I use Dyno Scan and check the Advanced Ignition Timing.

I'd try to help out by recreating the situation, but I have neither the EBH nor the CanView. Besides, my neighbors would think me nuts if I asked them to block me in my driveway chatting.

Tony, you don't have an EBH?! Why the heck not? Come on all the cool kids are doing it, your parents won't find out if you don't tell 'em. And it's so awesome!

    Ok. Sorry.
What I meant was that I an EBH sitting in my cargo area. It's not installed yet; should get installed in a couple weeks by Wayne himself.

Is that kind of like not inhaling?

I was in a hurry to get lunch and get out of work so that I forgot to time it.

I'll try to remember to time tomorrow morning.....

I wish I could help you, but I still haven't gotten my EBH problems resolved. Hopefully I'll be able to look at it this weekend, and I'll try to replicate this.

I timed S1 before I left work today. I started timing when the gas engine comes on (not as soon as I power on) and stopped when it shut down. The car was shutdown for 4 hours.

    Outside temp: 66 deg F
The ICE was on for 55 seconds.
