I actually have the plus model, but I'm not sure how to describe the area in question. Its that black plastic tray in front of the cup holders where you can place things. I have attached a photo pointing out the area in question.

Anyways, sometimes the things I put in this area fall out or items I put in there scratch the shiny plastic. Has anyone found a mat or something to put in there to give traction to the items placed there?

You can buy bar shelf liner from any restaurant supply. This is the soft rubber mesh material that is used to allow air to circulate under glassware and prevent the glass rims from getting chipped. It comes in rolls which provide much more than you need, so maybe your favorite bartender will give you a small piece if you ask nicely. :)

There is similar material which is solid rather than mesh used by machinists to line tool box draws. For example, Amazon sells this material from Excel. The stuff is sold in rolls where one roll is probably sufficient to line a couple of dozen Prius Primes.

If you are using the Qi charger, be a little wary of the added separation caused by the thickness of the material . I don't know if it would cause a problem.

Be sure to update your forum profile to show what vehicle you own. Right now it does not reflect that you own any Prius. This helps users give you better answers if they know what you drive.

You can buy rubber mat off a roll, and most hardware stores, cut a piece to suit. Resist the urge to get synthetic, get real rubber if possible.

The cheap method would be to go to your local arts and crafts store to make your own mat.

Toyota Japan sells a leather insert as an accessory. I'm guessing you find that on ebay or if you're in California, one of the many places that sell Japanese car stuff.

A thin coat of Plasti Dip does wonders on surfaces where you don't want stuff to slide around, and you can easily make it thin enough that it shouldn't affect the power transfer efficiency much.

Note that the items I posted above are actively sticky, and they stay that way through many (many) uses. I have one in my Prime and nothing slides around on there *at all*.

Can I use this in my Prime Advanced? I'm not using the charger so I would like to have something like this instead.

I cant see why not, I believe that the consoles are the same. I have the charger too but I don't use it as well so having the rubber insert helps to keep things from sliding around like spare change and my id badge.

What would the word be, ironic? Or maybe Kafkaesque? Toyota selling trim pieces to cover up their design.

Maybe a survey would be in order: how many with the charging bay use it for that purpose?

Not really. It's not as big of a feature there as it is here. I think it's only available on the very top model (A or A Premium) so most cars do not have one.

Sorry for the large pic. I put a set of these mats in. Came with a bunch of pieces for the door storage, back seat, inside the console, etc. Got them on Amazon. Came in red stripe, blue stripe or plain black. $21.99 Amazon Prime, so no shipping.

This was a pic I downloaded from the Amazon product page. Not my car. My console is white.

If you think your Chi charger is too slow, and want a mat, try this one. It comes with 2 x 2.4A USB port, and 2 x 12V, also a backlid LED cup holder, selling for around $180 USD. Installation is just 2 minutes (see the video):

This would be great if it had the wireless charger
