Some roofers came by offering a "free" inspection of my 3 year old roof. I answered, "My next roof will be solar. Do you do solar?"

Lol... This dude messages the same way @Tombukt2 does... Funny how roofers are alot like mechanics who refuse to work on hybrid cars even though they've been on the road for 26 years.

Not quite: looks to me like a voicemail, that bob's phone transcribed. I've found it does a decent job, with my iPhone.

Does sound like a disorganized company, whinging about their workload, or lack of, not sure which. At least they're backing off, early.

My 30-year-old roof will need replacing soon but sans hurricane I will probably cash flow it right after Christmas in a year or two when installers are a little less busy.
THEN I will do incremental DIY solar.
I'd like to array them in racks on the ground, but I will probably bow to convention and roof mount them.
There's a zero-percent chance that there will be an ROI for the panels since I'm in an Electric Cooperative.
I will not even come close to breaking even, but my intentions are to use solar for post-storm security.
I also have a golf cart and will get some batteries I can use as a spit can.

About 6 months back our son was over, doing an oil change, noticed a damp spot in the garage ceiling. Closer inspection it looked bone-dry, even after rain, but it had been about 22 years, so we started the roof replacement process.

Went with the pricier contender; they did an excellent job, had zinc strips installed on all ridges, and a vent hood above kitchen range hood (currently a recirc style).

Afterwards, I opened up the ceiling, cut holes in cupboard, ran the ducts, backdraft damper near top, went well, and after 35 years here we’ve got vent-to-outside range hood. Will consider replacing the range hood itself, but for now working good.

then the kitchen’s peeling popcorn ceiling caught my attention: we’ve got a crew coming in 2-3 weeks, in a couple of days they’re going to have it all stripped/mudded and repainted.

all because son noticed “damp” spot. :)

Original transcription (?) reads like AI generated a few years back.

There are always worms. A house, or boat or airplane (or car?) provides the can.
