Rolling stops

    I recently enjoyed the "Prius has fewer fatal accidents" thread.
    I have to wonder about other traffic issues though.
    Since I got the Prius, I feel almost compelled to roll through stop signs (which I know have no traffic, i.e. into my workplace in the am as I am first one in.)
    Do you think Prius drivers get more tickets for rolling stops?

    It wouldn't surprise me if they do as I find myself doing this as well, and I'm a "follow the rules" kind of person. It just seems like so many stop signs in certain areas should be yield signs.

    I roll through stops not because of a mileage concern but because on most of the roads I drive to/from work, it's basically expected. I would be be chastised if I came to a complete stop. So like everyone else, I slow to around 7 mph or maybe less and then take off again.

    Unless there's a friendly policeman parked there watching, of course. ;)

    Ouch!! Please follow basic traffic rules. I know life is different when you are way out in the country, far from the city, but if the road is paved and you are coming to a stop sign, please actually stop your car.

    Not only will you be more likely to involve yourself in an accident, you are more likely to involve a pedestrian in that accident. Take the time to stop, look around, and then continue to drive.

    (This also doesn't do much for the rep of the Prius driver who is more concerned about MPGs than anything else.)

    I got a ticket for that a long time ago. That's enough to convince me to come to a complete stop. You don't know where that policeman will be watching for things like this.

    I follow the rules of the road. Some might consider me a zealot, but I follow the law as closely as I can. I stop even with Stop signs, then pull forward. I turn into the nearest lane when making a left turn at a single lane intersection. I always obey the speed limit.

    I haven't always been this way, but with age and maturity I find that it is a lot easy to play by the rules.

    I got a ticket for going through a stop sign years ago on my bike. I was going about 60km/h but I had a clear view down the roads in all directions. Only thing I didn't see was the cop and his bike behind a bush.I now always stop, not for safety but for my wallet.
