Usually I wait till I wear out a set before I upgrade however even the wife is complaining after the last rain storms. Time for upgrade.

    What I want:
    - Better traction in dry
    - Much better traction in wet
    - No snow in San Francisco so don't care about snow
    - Decent tire life

    Proposal for Upgrade:
    RIM: Konig Incident 17x7
TIRES: Yokohama Avid Envigor (147mph version)

Tire size recommended was 205/45/17. When I plug into tire calculator, 215/50/17 is a closer match to the OEM. When I look at what you guys are using, everyone is pretty much using 215/45/17.

    So questions:
    - Why use a smaller ratio tire?
    - Anyone using the Avid Envigors? MPG? Tire life? Ride quality? Noise?
    - New or reuse the TPMS?

Thanks in advance and Happy 2015.

Who recommended 205/45R17? 215 is the "correct" 17" size, at least what Toyota uses. You're correct that 205/50 is actually closer, to 195/65R15.

For wet traction, braking, Michelin Premier A/S is getting good reviews.

I was checking CARID.com as one of the sites I was cruising through and also I see a few members here use the 205/45 or 215/45. I'll check the Michelin as well. Thanks for the recommendation.
