When i purchased the car 2 months ago, it came with the dynamic guidelines.

After replace the 12v battery, the lines disappeared. Tried switching on all the driver assistance options in the JDM factory upgraded head unit but still no guidelines.

Anyone know where and how I can switch the lines back on?

Most google results are USA made prius with different head unit and/or camrys

Does your manual give you that information? (And yes, I know that my US-market manual has "If equipped" footnotes for numerous features; maybe the Kiwi one is the same.) Can your local dealer help you?

I would greatly appreciate being able to being able to enable the guidelines in my 2015 US-market Prius Four, but I have been unable to discover whether that is a function of the camera or of the computer.

Could you tell us which car and head unit you have, please? Is there a model number or ID code printed on the head unit faceplate, usually in the lower left or lower right corner?

The settings for the rear camera are in the head unit’s hidden service menu (サービス検査), under 機能検査・調整 (Function Check/Setting) → カメラ設定 (Camera Settings).

To enter the service menu, with the car in ACC ON mode, press and hold the G button on the head unit, switch the headlights between OFF and three times, and then release the G button; or do the procedure on page 927 in this document (in Japanese): 08545-00U20.pdf.

I’m not sure which rear camera you have, but for one model, a detailed setup procedure, including a printable alignment chart, is on pages 118–126 of this document (also in Japanese): 08634-00202.pdf.

If you don’t read Japanese, you can use the Google Translate smartphone app, which has a real-time camera translation feature, to read the on-screen text and buttons.

I've entered the hidden camera settings. U can activate fixed yellow guidelines.

But even selecting prius model camera option, no lines showed up.

If I select without camera sync, I can have the fixed yellow lines but not the dynamic steering lines that I'm after

Does the head unit have the バックガイドモニター調整 (back guide monitor adjustment) option, the first of the three in the menu seen at the top of page 119 in the second document I linked above? This is the option that’s used when the steering signal is available at the head unit, which presumably it was, if the dynamic lines were working before.

I realize this thread is about a JDM setup, but perhaps you are the one to answer the question to which I have never found an answer: are the lines generated in the camera or in the computer? IOW, might replacing just the camera in my 2015 US-market Prius Four give me the guidelines?

It did have first and second option available.

Selecting first option and choosing prius in first connection option shows up my reverse camera footage. Second connection option doesnt do anything.

But reverse dynamic lines still not there after picking prius model.

Reverse standard fixed lines shows up if I pick the second option

Here are the installation instructions (in Japanese) for another Toyota rear camera system: 08695-00501.pdf.

The head unit setup procedure begins on page 190, and it includes steps to configure the steering angle detection. For some vehicles, the head unit already contains enough information, once the model is selected, but for other vehicles, it’s necessary to download vehicle-specific information to an SD card to load into the head unit, or to enter vehicle-specific codes found in other documents. If either of these applies to your car, and the head unit didn’t retain the information when the battery was disconnected, it may not be feasible to restore the original functionality without help from a Toyota dealer in Japan.
I believe it depends on the model and the camera. Obviously, dynamic guide lines require steering angle information that wouldn’t be available at the camera; static guide lines are, in some cases, generated in the camera, but of course, their position and shape depends on the camera lens and mounting location.

@NewHybridOwner I was able to confirm that my 2018 Prius c generates its static marker overlay within the camera in the course of replacing the head unit. The raw analog video coming up the wire is already composited with the marks baked in.

I suppose a camera could provide the dynamic style markup as well; granting it access to steering angle data via CAN wouldn't be difficult at all. I don't know which route they picked on the cars that have the fancy version.

I don’t know the Prius C, but gen3 has no CAN bus data line to the camera.

Even the fixed guidelines would be a help.

    Hi Elektroingenieur,

I am referring to the highlighted part of your post. Can you please guide me to such a document ? I am looking for the vehicle specific information for Prius 2013 (18 items info). I need to enter this information in NSCD-W66 head unit. Unfortunately, the SD card that comes with it does not have the info of 3rd gen Prius. I just need to enter vehicle specific information, map data is not required.

    Thanks in advance,
    Hammad

I’m sorry, but I can’t. I believe the information you’re seeking would be in Toyota’s AVN (audio-video-navigation) installation manual for the Japanese market, which as far as I know, is available only as a series of documents on an internal Toyota web server, accessible to Toyota dealers and parts sales companies in Japan.

One such company (in Sapporo) used to post some of those documents on their website (page in Japanese), but they’ve been removed, and in any case, I can’t recall ever having seen vehicle-specific installation instructions there, only the generic instructions for head units and other dealer-installed accessories.

    Thanks for the reply.

Can anyone explain to me what is the meaning of Back Camera offset X, Back Camera offset Y, and Back Camera offset Z? What is the reference point and how these values are calculated ?

    Thanks,
