We drove 1,400 miles through Northern Michigan in 5 days on our first trip in our Blue Ribbon Metallic Pkg III 2010. There were 2 adults and 2 kids and luggage for the first 200 miles and we lost a kid and some of the luggage for the rest of the trip. I won’t mention all of the minor shortcomings of the car as we all know what they are. Thanks to this site, I bought knowing about these things and I am very happy with my decision to buy this car.
We drove 6 hours each day for 3 of the days. We had no problem with seat comfort or ride. Tires were at 40/38. The first 100 miles were without CC as we left with 500 miles on the car and waited until the break-in period was over to use CC. Nearly all of the rest of the trip was on CC with a few brief storms and temps in the upper 60s to mid 70s so there was only a small amount of A/C use. The best tank was nearly all at 55mph with a very small amount at 70 and an equally small amount at lower city street speeds. That tank took us 653.6 miles for a calculated mileage of 57.9 MPG. At one point the HSI display read 61.2 MPG. Two days of driving for a total of around 12 hours on one tank! When I filled up after that tank the DTE was 23 and the last pip had been blinking for about 10 miles.
I did pass one camper on a 55 MPH highway and was pleasantly surprised at the throttle response when pushing it to the floor at 50 MPH. I was really surprised at the acceleration available at that speed.
Leaving it in Ready mode when the driver runs into a store while the family waits and the A/C continues to run without the engine running is the coolest (pun intended) thing, according to the wife and kids! We are extremely happy with our Prius.
It is amusing to hear people here in Michigan crack jokes about the Prius. It reminds me of the jokes and comments about Japanese vehicles in the 70s and 80s. It appears they haven’t learned even after the Japanese have eaten Detroit’s lunch so the Japanese will probably move on to dessert now.

Too funny... we lost her on purpose at summer music camp for 12 days.

One thing I forgot to mention was that the satellite radio does cut out a lot while on east-west roads with heavily wooded areas on the sides of the road. I don't plan on subscribing after the trial ends but I know satellite reception has been a frequent topic.

Thanks for the great post! In a couple of weeks I'll be driving about 550 miles in one day and I've been wondering what that first trip has been life for people. Enjoyed your story.

So you dropped the kid into the blue lake? I wondered what that splash was.

Is there a separate antenna for the satellite radio, or does it use the standard antenna? I have an aftermarket-installed Sirius radio and the reception has been excellent, even in wooded areas.

I read somewhere here on PC that the satellite antenna is on the underside of the mount for the am/fm antenna.
