Report: Toyota To Increase Prius Production in Japan by 50% in 2007
    22 September 2006

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reports that Toyota will increase the production of the Prius in Japan by 50% to about 300,000 vehicles in 2007.

Toyota currently manufactures the hybrid almost completely in Japan and exports the vehicles to 40 countries and regions. The company already plans increasing annual output by 15% to about 200,000 vehicles this year, but demand still exceeds production.

Maybe people will see a drop in prices at the retail end now (soon) that there will be more cars. I'm glad Toyota is being responsible for less green house gasses.

What about the other production increases Toyota plans on models with non-hybrid emissions and mpg?

I am not sure about my math but I think Toyota is ramping up production far more than 100,000 Prius units.

I doubt they are rampin other production with 50% so the HYBRID increase is FAR faster then it's ramping any other production. But I guess GM/FORD/BMW/CHRYSLET still thinks hyrbids are a "fad"

Wasn't people saying that the HYBRID fad was over? Guess Toyota didn't get that memo...

to be fair, all new models from Toyota and Lexus have class leading mpg and emissions, or very close to that...
